Last week, I had the privilege of presenting our work at the Circular Economy Innovation Cluster (CEIC), a collaboration between SecondMuse and Climate-KIC, at the The India Advantage Summit [TIA Summit]. A big thanks to Jose Jacob Kalayil, for providing the opportunity! At CEIC, in addition to our entrepreneurial support activities, we are collaborating with a diverse group of actors to address scaling barriers in the circular economy for the city of Bengaluru. Through our Stakeholder Forum, a multi-stakeholder platform for cross-collaboration, we aim to foster collective action in overcoming these challenges. A month ago, 30 participants from diverse backgrounds across the country came together for an immersive two-week residential program, Journey, an idea competition in Bangalore. These bright minds collaborated intensively, developing seven innovative ideas to help prevent and reduce waste in the city. For me, the key takeaways are: 1. Collaboration and Cross-Learning are Key to Long-Lasting Solutions - The real challenge often lies not in inaction by one actor but in the lack of knowledge, information, and opportunities to collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Sessions like creating an inclusive SWM plan by Sensing Local and Systems Thinking by Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy highlighted the importance and challenges of stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and collaboration in this complex ecosystem. We strive to achieve this as part of the stakeholder forum under #CircularEconomyInnovationCluster. Reach out to me if you’d like to learn more. 2. Hope is All We Need - With all the negative news and the world’s challenges, it's easy to get lost in cynicism and the rabbit hole of an existential crisis. I’ve been there myself many times, as I’m sure many of us in the social impact space have. However, the energy, curiosity, and dedication of these participants have reignited my hope, which was nothing short of contagious. To build a better future, we need to collaborate with young people and foster a supportive learning environment where their enthusiasm can thrive. 3. Find Your Tribe - Find and nurture relationships that support you on your "Journey". Reflecting on my path from software engineering to social impact, I'm grateful to Pramath Raj Sinha and Team Anant Fellowship for believing in me and providing the opportunity to be part of the founding cohort of the Anant Fellowship back in 2017. Through the Journey program, Climate-KIC, and SecondMuse, with the support of the IKEA Foundation, we are striving to create a robust community for future leaders in the circular economy space A big thank you to Nachiket Kulkarni for coming during your holiday to conduct a session for our cohort, to Saji Varghese for sharing your love of curiosity and fueling participants' enthusiasm, and to Nalini Shekar,Tanuja Rao, Malini Parmar for sharing years of experience in the challenging field of waste management with our participants.
