I am delighted to present my graduate studio project, "City Forum." This design prioritizes horizontal circulation at the ground level, effectively managing pedestrian flow and movement. The project aspires to create a meaningful connection between City Hill, UNSW, Commonwealth Park, and future developments, including a proposed light rail network in Canberra City. Inspired by Simon Fraser University's clustered design approach, the proposal organizes social and cultural functions at the ground level while elevating quieter, reflective spaces to foster a sense of retreat. At its core, the central ground-floor agora serves as a key connective space, linking public facilities such as a reception area, marketplace, cinema, and city chamber. This design fosters dynamic public movement and interaction within the city square. The concept establishes a modern interpretation of the classical agora, characterized by monumental columns and expansive shaded structures. These elements define a central gathering space designed for public events and communal interaction, emphasizing social engagement and participation. The integration of large columns and open shading creates a flexible, inviting environment that accommodates diverse activities while enhancing the overall openness and accessibility of the space. Communal seating, accessible from all sides, ensures seamless movement and promotes inclusivity within the urban landscape. In the facade design, principles inspired by Kengo Kuma’s architectural philosophy have been applied, emphasizing the sensory qualities and materiality of timber. The timber is layered to filter light, creating a dynamic interplay of shadows and enriching the tactile warmth of the design. This treatment enhances the human scale and establishes a sense of lightness and openness throughout the structure. By adopting an "anti-monumental" approach, the design minimizes visual weight, achieving a harmonious integration with its surroundings while maintaining an inviting and contemporary aesthetic. #master of architecture #canberra

✨❇️Wólczańska 13 is a project that brings life back to one of the most important industrial monuments in Łódź. Revisit Home is passionately restoring the post-industrial buildings and the neo-Renaissance tenement to create a space ideal for living, working and relaxing. Project highlights: 🔸 historic lofts and modern flats. 🔸 extra storey in renovated buildings. 🔸 new residential homes integrated into the historic surroundings. 🔸 greenery and spaces for relaxation - a green walkway between the buildings. 🔸 underground parking for residents. In addition, the works assume the preservation of heritage, i.e. - a general renovation taking into account historical details, preservation of characteristic elements such as the installation ‘Silence’ by Lukasz Berger. 💡 Thanks to this revitalisation, Łódź will be enriched with a unique place that combines the spirit of a bygone era with modern solutions. 👀Find out more about this projects here: https://lnkd.in/d84c_f9z #architecture #future #factory #revitalisation #renovation

The building, which was previously a commercial space, was repurposed as a cultural facility. The renovation included demolition, consolidation, and the incorporation of new structures. The building's interior features include panelling, shelves, study tables, and ventilation ducts. A new staircase was incorporated for evacuation purposes. The building also features a gallery, an outdoor patio, and a sunken courtyard for children's activities. The library's functional areas are organised on three levels, with a semi-basement level for study, conferences, and exhibitions, and an adult area with reading areas, multimedia, internet media, and periodicals. The Lime Street redevelopment in Liverpool has won the Carbuncle Cup for the UK's worst building. While design awards often celebrate the best in innovation and aesthetics, the Carbuncle Cup serves as a reminder of the impact of less favorable design choices. Given annually, originally by Building Design, and since 2024 by The Fence, to "the ugliest building in the United Kingdom completed in the last 12 months". "A bunch of developers have been allowed to knock down a happy, eclectic row of buildings – including the much-loved, sorely-missed Futurist cinema – and replaced it with such nothingness," said Architectural Record contributor and jury chair Tim Abrahams. "Such banality that their only option is to cover it with a screen, upon which they have drawn portraits of those same old demolished buildings." Though thought harsh by some, the carbuncle cup holds architects and developers accountable for their contributions to the built environment. The negative publicity surrounding the award hopefully motivates stakeholders to consider the long-term implications of their designs. https://lnkd.in/euth-hRi Thoughts? #Architecture #UrbanPlanning #DesignCritique

Adaptive Reuse: Breathing New Life into Old Structures Adaptive reuse is a growing trend in urban development, where old buildings are repurposed for new uses. This practice not only preserves historical architecture but also promotes sustainability by reducing the need for new construction materials. Adaptive reuse projects are transforming cities worldwide. For example, the Tate Modern in London, once a power station, is now one of the world's leading art museums. This transformation not only preserved a piece of the city's industrial heritage but also revitalized the surrounding area, attracting millions of visitors annually. Incorporating adaptive reuse into urban planning offers several benefits. It reduces construction waste, conserves resources, and maintains the historical character of cities. As an architect with a focus on sustainability and visual culture, I believe that adaptive reuse is a powerful tool for creating dynamic and sustainable urban environments. P U E R T O D E A L I C A N T E Concept proposal for a new congress centre for the city of Alicante consisting of: 15115 m2 - congress centre (auditorium, exhibition, restaurant, parking, circulation and all services) 3925 m2- office building The aim of the proposed development and its architectural features is to promote the rehabilitation of the port area, with the objective of converting previously maritime orientated industrial structures into community driven spaces igniting the connection of Alicante to its inhabitants and guests whilst simultaneously incorporating current architectural advances to ensure long term sustainability. Our proposed concept is a contemporary interpretation of a deconstructed stone fortress that sits as purposefully placed fragmented stone panels in the constructs of the piers. Our primary focus throughout the planning process was to maximize the flow, participation, connection, and community of human interaction with the development. The structures were all placed to enhance and promote a fluid and dynamic pedestrian stream throughout the new buildings as well as the link with the existing structures of the digital district. #architecture #architect #alicante #international #contemporary #contemporaryarchitecture #rendering #concept #design #congress #auditorium #bespokearchitecture #internationalarchitecture #waterfeature #pier #marina #concrete #stone #nature #building #buildingdesign #ocean
