I love this. As 🧠Pasha Marlowe, MFT had pointed out; there are so many different versions and iterations of these that could be made. My question to you: how are you looking to decrease the inequity between these states? In your personal and professional life? What do you believe to be essential in combatting these systematic and institutionalised belief structures? Is having people in positions power through privilege, just simply* acknowledge it, enough? It is a considerable task, whichever way we look at it. However, we do need to be brave enough to make that first important step.
Fantastic presentation to our first year degree apprentice SLT students by Kate B.. Sharing this model (Academic Wheel of Privilege, UK Research Intergrity Office, 2023,https://lnkd.in/ei6XWGSw) for you to ponder (the closer you are to the centre of the circle, the more power you likely hold in existing power structures in UK culture):

Had the pleasure of attending and presenting at the Carnegie National Small College Enrollment Conference this week in Charlotte where I connected (and reconnected!) with admissions colleagues from all over the country and shared information about Interstride 's engagement platform for international students with Judy Chen. It felt 🌟 SO GOOD 🌟 to be back out there! I learned that with the enrollment cliff looming, small colleges are facing many unique challenges but also rapidly adapting with innovative solutions. What is the biggest enrollment challenge you expect to face in the upcoming admissions cycle and how will you tackle it? #admissions #internationaladmission #internationaleducation #enrollmentmanagement

The data showing the first decline in those eligible for free school meals going to university is worthy of a pause. It is the first decline since 2005/06. Why could this be happening? 1. The costs of going to university are perceived to be higher than at any previous point (cost of living, loan interest rates compared to 2005/06). 2. There are credible alternative choices available (degree apprenticeships, in work training and progression). 3. The value of a university education has come through a period of being questioned in a sustained way by the government of the day. In the end, it is one year of data but it should be a wake-up call. Tackling structural disadvantage is a long term investment and needs sustained effort. It is why we have moved into a new home in The Quad, Station Quarter, Telford. This is not a project. An initiative. It is a determined statement of commitment and intent to those currently not accessing our high quality education and leading employability outcomes from #Telford and wider #Shropshire that our door is wide open. Our new courses focus on pathways to well paid jobs which are future focused. We are in the community, integrated with Telford College and Invest Telford to demonstrate the value that education and skills will give individuals at different stages of their lives. Our #DiscoveryDay is an easy way to find out more. You are welcome to drop in on 2 November 2024. I am less concerned by the one year data in itself. I am concerned that it might represent individuals who have missed an opportunity which could be life changing. In the end, individuals have the right to make a choice. My only concern is ensuring that every person who has the potential to benefit from a higher level and university education has the barriers to doing so removed. We are actively seeking individuals and organisations willing to contribute to first and continuing year scholarships to support cost of living expenses. If you know a person from Telford, #Shropshire or the wider Midlands area who could benefit from a university education and excellent employment prospects, please encourage them to drop in. We are keen to ensure they have the information to make a good choice. #togetherwewillmakethedifference #opportunity #choice Telford & Wrekin Council Shropshire Chamber of Commerce NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Ricoh UK Capgemini Coforge JCB JLR TAFE - Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited Jacqui Smith GuildHE Future Leaders UK Agilent Technologies Schneider Electric ABP Food Group MULLER DAIRY (U.K.) LIMITED McConnel Faccenda Foods Ltd Shaun Davies

What does Merry Christmas mean? We hope you Enjoy Christmas? Enjoy what about Christmas? Presumably it's something to do with the birth of Jesus? What is there to enjoy today? What if the secret to the enjoyment of life was revealed today? Christmas day is a celebration of Evolutionary Emergence. Something appearing from nothing - as described by the Virgin Birth. How can understanding evolutionary emergence (as demonstrated by Jesus on his birthday) help people to enjoy this (to have a Merry Christmas) and EVERY (to live happily ever after) other day? The realisation that the exact same process of emergence may occur within the human mind (through Learning what is loved) - to give rise to the 'Virgin Birth' in context of an individual's quality. To become an unprecedented better (hence 'Virgin Birth') than we were just momentarily a priori. The gift of Christmas is to teach us that the ENTIRE basis to reality is in Emergence. Emergence may occur within an abstraction layer (for instance in the development of mind in wisdom or development of mind in art as we get better in both) - or it can happen, essentially similarly - in the transition between abstaction layers (species) - as we see today! albeit a few thousand years away.
Wishing a Merry Christmas to all our Cambridge students, staff and alumni, and everyone celebrating around the world 🎄
