In conversation yesterday with the supremely dedicated CEO Daniel Hatfield, co-founder of the very impressive business Edge Growth, the concept ‘Magnificent v. Mighty’ came up when referring to how CEOs are being asked to build businesses of the future.
It’s a big idea as it places emphasis on the quality and ‘bones’ of a business, rather than its size.
This challenges conventional thinking because the measures of achievement are subtlety different.
* Competition remains.
* Performance will always matter.
* Excellence will always be a given.
But what will drive performance in the future is not bigger.
It’s better.
‘Better’ unpacked = wiser, responsible, mature, action with perspective, fair, creative, informed.
Not an ounce of performance will be lost in this new pursuit. In fact, these very attributes these days are performance-enhancing.
Ask Enron.
❓I would love to know whether the distinction of Magnificent v. Mighty feels important to to.
❓ Equally, I’d love to know if it doesn’t, and why.
