In the field, we occasionally encounter poorly installed underground tanks, where corners have been cut to save time or money. Unfortunately, this often leads to costly reinstallations. Proper site preparation isn’t just a step in the process - it’s essential. A well-prepared site ensures your tank remains stable, performs as intended, and stands the test of time. Here are the key factors to keep in mind: 👉 Excavation The excavation process must be precise. The hole needs to be the right size - not too tight, which can complicate installation, and not too big, which may require excess backfill. Always ensure the excavation complies with the manufacturer’s guidelines. 👉 Leveling Underground detention tanks are designed to sit perfectly horizontal. Therefore, a stable compacted base that is level is crucial to making sure the tank installed perfectly horizontal. Due to a significant portion of the structure being located in the marine deposit zone (Buried Zone), immersed zone, tidal zone, and splash zone, metal piers are exposed to corrosion in the marine environment. In cathodic protection of metal jetties, anodes are installed at various submerged points of the jetty (such as piles) to protect the structure. Anodes used in the sacrificial anode method are of the flush-mounted type and are connected to the structure via a base using welding or bolts.
