In the face of a changing climate, residents of large cities are increasingly vulnerable to rising temperatures. Heatwaves in urban areas can lead to the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, posing a threat to human health and inadequate housing. HeatView offers a straightforward risk management method by evaluating heat stress at specific locations, providing valuable information for implementing mitigation measures. Adapting to these challenges is becoming a priority, with an increasing focus on implementing passive cooling techniques such as cool roofs, green roofs, and increasing urban greenery. 🌬 Wind-driven Rain in Speckel? Wind-driven rain plays a pivotal role in Heat and Moisture Transfer (HAMT) modelling, impacting the durability of building envelopes, especially when porous materials are specified. AIRAH DA07/ ASHRAE 160 recognises this with the 1% driving rain assumption. Today, HAMT capabilities lack consideration for surface water absorption and post-rain precipitation, limiting its out of the box accuracy. To address this, Speckel have introduced a novel function: adjusting external material humidity levels based on climate data, bridging the gap and enhancing model fidelity. With the approach, we can allow the relative humidity of the external facing material to be higher all year round, reducing its thermal conductivity (when temperature-dependent) while increasing the liquid transport coefficients (suction and redistribution). 👉 Read More https://lnkd.in/eNkNnTz2
