While it’s fair to say that we, as executive leaders, believe everyone in our organization has the capacity for great growth and success, there are usually some shining stars among your hiring pool—those individuals who stand apart as high-potential employees, or what’s called “HiPos.” These individuals are those who live and breathe your company’s vision, mission, values and goals. With HiPos, company culture is part of their DNA. They’re highly aligned to what’s vital, always motivated, productive and results-oriented, not just because they may believe in the organization or want to hit those marks, but because it’s simply who they are. A cut above high performers of your workforce, they aspire to be consistently excellent, capable and engaged. For HiPos, these traits are far more than hobbies—they’re habits. Interesting statistic: 57% of professionals who quit their jobs do so because they had a tough time with their manager. It's our job as leaders to retain not only the employee, but their buy in. What helped me manage a small but mighty team of eight ICs was being people-first. Like a lot of us, I've had jobs working for people who I had a tough time working for. At times, I struggled with confidence and career development as a result. These experiences inspired me to be different when I became a manager. To offer a more people-first mindset. Now, what is "people-first"? 1. You've gotta care about the person, and show them that you care. 2. You've gotta empower them. Put them in positions to let their strengths shine. Develop them into trusted individuals within your company. 3. You've gotta have grace. Leading with grace facilitates trust, open communication and respect. These tools helped my ream exceed goals while experiencing zero attrition. Not to mention, it cultivated an overall positive team energy. The reason I'm sharing this is because I'm here to help. If you want to succeed as a leader, embrace the people-first mindset. Below, you'll find the first of a series of stories about leadership, based on reflections and lessons from the past. Part 1 of the series - Hidden Gems: Unlocking Potential in Employees who Struggle to Learn Stay tuned for more, and enjoy! https://lnkd.in/dJu4aMcw
