Via della Conoscenza is a transformative project that aims to connect a large part of Bologna's territory and enhance the city's cultural, social and historical heritage. The initiative envisages a continuous, high quality and safe route that promotes sustainable travel, while creating strong links between Bologna's main centres of scientific education and technological research and its neighbourhoods, parks, gardens and transport networks.   The project is conceived as a corridor of public space that not only integrates the existing urban fabric, but also lays the foundation for socially aware urban regeneration initiatives. Via della Conoscenza will connect planned urban developments with the city's cultural, environmental and historical centres, particularly in the north-western quadrant.   MIC-HUB’s contribution focuses on residents’ quality of life, providing opportunities for multimodal transport and promoting tourism by highlighting the unique value of the areas crossed. The new route’s integration with existing infrastructure and the promotion of cycling will have a positive impact on both the daily commute and leisure travel.   Beyond the physical infrastructure, the project calls for dedicated signage, graphic design, communications, innovation and technology to establish its identity. Micro-plazas or hubs will be strategically placed along the route to provide new uses for urban spaces, encouraging community engagement and synergies between users.   Ultimately, Via della Conoscenza is much more than a cycle path; it is an active, flexible and coordinated urban infrastructure that reinterprets and redistributes Bologna's urban spaces. Through its focus on sustainable mobility, the project offers a vision of a dynamic and interconnected cityscape in the ongoing evolution of Bologna's identity. Looking at the top the Paris exhibition center, I'm inspired by the endless possibilities unfolding before me. Vertical gardens sprout from rooftops, painting a picture of a sustainable future right in the heart of this bustling city. 🌿 It takes me back to my student days in Seoul, where rooftops were more than just overhead protection. They were thriving hubs of activity, community, and greenery. The cityscape was a canvas, with rooftops as its dynamic palette, brimming with life and innovation. In our rapidly urbanizing world, every inch of space is valuable. It's high time we rethink how we utilize these often-overlooked spaces. Rooftops can be more than just a shelter from the elements; they can be our answer to sustainable living, community building, and even food production in densely populated cities. But for this vision to come to life, we need support. Regulatory bodies have a crucial role to play in fostering innovation and granting the freedom to transform urban spaces meaningfully. Let's advocate for more freedom in using these spaces, and more support from the regulatory front to bring our cities to life, one rooftop at a time. Join the movement. Live from EXPO REAL (Messe München) 📢 Our Head of Global Real Estate, Kashee Ramalingum, took part yesterday in the European Residential Investment panel at #ExpoReal2023, alongside Karin Koks CFA, Greystar, Marius Schoener, CBRE moderated by the excellent Richard Betts from Real Asset Media. At the panel, a key point of discussion was how the living sector has become a firm favourite for investors. In the current climate though, transactional markets are still experiencing uncertainty and hesitation, however operators of new and innovative residential concepts are on the opposite end, undergoing a phase of increased interest from both asset owners and tenants. According to the panelists, this seems to be especially true when looking at #servicedliving, #microliving and #coliving, three new residential real estate offerings that capitalise on the trends of urbanisation and the growing demand for convenience and flexibility. At the same time, through recent breakthroughs in property management technology, players in the space are able to decrease operational costs. A big thanks to the Expo Real organisation for having us at this fantastic event.
