Misunderstandings can lead to serious consequences. A simple mix-up can mean the difference between life and death. As Healthcare Professionals we do have a lot of abbreviations. Did you know there are over 10,000 medical abbreviations in use today? That’s a lot of potential for confusion! Medical abbreviations are found everywhere in our field—on charts, prescriptions, lab results, and even in verbal communication. You use them to save time, but if they’re not clearly understood, they can cause significant issues.
