During IELTS preparation I usually devote the same amount of energy and time to developing my student’s skill of quick brainstorming as to improving speaking or writing skills, due to that “IELTS is unfair”, therefore my students have to learn how to produce good speaking and writing answers in a short period of time. 😅 #ielts #exampreparation #exam #teaching

This mindset applies now more than ever. What will you do next week in your teaching practice to model for your students age-appropriate skills and strategies to cope with teacher shortage, turnover and programming gaps? It's possible they are feeling 'it' as much if not more than we are.

This quote emphasizes the importance of teaching children resilience and problem-solving skills rather than always solving their problems for them. Let me provide a story example from a teacher's perspective: Imagine a teacher named Ms. Smith who has a student named Michael struggling with a difficult math problem. Instead of immediately giving him the answer, Ms. Smith guides Michael through the problem-solving process, encouraging him to think critically and try different strategies. She provides support and guidance, but ultimately allows Michael to grapple with the challenge on his own. Through this approach, Michael learns valuable problem-solving skills and gains confidence in his abilities. He realizes that he is capable of facing challenges and finding solutions with perseverance and determination. By teaching instead of rescuing, Ms. Smith empowers Michael to become a more resilient and independent learner.

Albert Einstein ❤️ Absolutely! And may I add: “the training of the mind to think is the passport to learning new concepts, mastering them for life, and applying them to real life situations when appropriate.” ▶️ Although I did not know Albert Einstein's words of wisdom when I started my teaching career in 1970--fresh out of college--it seemed logical to me that, once a student learns how to think for himself or herself, he/she will be able to understand new concepts easily. Asking themselves such questions as: "How does this work? Why does it work? What makes this work?" the students truly learn, truly internalize a concept instead of just learning it by heart and parroting it, then forgetting it quickly. ⏩ Throughout my teaching career spanning over 4 decades, the following teaching strategy helped numerous generations achieve success and reach their life goals and career goals: 🎯 1. I always began each class discussion with a thought-provoking question pertaining to the topic for that class session. My students were free to provide any answers that they thought were relevant. There was no penalty for incorrect answers, so my students were very enthusiastic about participating. If they knew the correct answers, they received bonus points ranging from 5 to 20 points. 🏆 5 points were awarded for a correct answer without any explanation, and 20 points for going to the chalk board and explaining the concept to their classmates. 📌 This activity helped my students to gain self-confidence, develop an interest in the topic, and, most of all, think about what? how? and why? 📌 Besides, a question at the beginning of class piqued the students' curiosity and stimulated their interest in the topic and the task at hand. 😃 It was so rewarding to see even the weakest students make the best effort to answer questions, and the priceless expressions of joy and pride on their faces when they could answer a question correctly were unequaled! ❤️❤️❤️ 🎯 2. Once an enthusiastic atmosphere had been established, we analyzed all the students' answers that I had written on the chalkboard. Along so many other things but this is a good start. The earlier you introduce these concepts the likelihood of those seeds taking root and producing in adulthood.
