We are pleased to share our latest research, led by Artur Pokropek and Lale Khorramdel, on addressing guessing behavior in tests through the IRT Explanatory Model for Guessing (IRT-EMG). https://lnkd.in/di4FWvYj Guessing can significantly affect the reliability and validity of assessments, introducing random errors and biases. This model integrates a mixture of models with process data, such as response times and the number of actions respondents take during computer-based ILSAs. The IRT-EMG model's application on PIAAC data highlighted insights into guessing behaviors across literacy and numeracy assessments in Japan, the UK, and Italy. The model revealed variability in guessing probabilities across countries. We found a notable U-shaped relationship between response time and guessing probability, indicating both rapid and solution-based guessing.

Using a continuous-time chaotic oscillator as a random number generator with full random number test results make us receive the best paper award in ECCTD 2005, and instead of deterministic chaos itself, analyzing the effect of noise on the chaotic trajectories and addressing it as the nondeterministic entropy source of a chaos based random number generator make us receive the best paper award in APCCAS 2014.

Here's a new #preprint on #openscience #opendata with Tony Ross-Hellauer Thomas Klebel & Federico Bianchi that shows that more competitive #research #funding schemes may lead to higher rates of #datasharing in the short term, but lower rates in the long-term. By simulating the adaptive response of academic teams competing for funding, we found that more distributive #grants do not allow academic teams to cover the costs and time required for #datasharing, limiting uptake. Our findings suggest that without support services and infrastructure to minimise the costs of data sharing and other ancillary conditions (e.g., university policy support, reputational rewards and benefits of data sharing for academic teams), it is unlikely that funding agencies alone can play a leading role for the uptake of data sharing. Therefore, any attempt to reform reward and recognition systems towards open science principles should carefully consider the potential impact of their proposed policies and their long-term side effects.
