Phishing and Fraud Scammers are getting more sophisticated. In the past 3 weeks, I have had a number of texts, phone calls and emails posing as my “bank”. In “Ye olden days”, you could differentiate the scammers from the real companies easily. The logos were not quite “right” and the language was not perfect. Not true any more. Do NOT take anyone’s word as true. If it is a text or email do NOT respond. Choose another means of checking that this is really from the presumptive sender. In my case I called the banks’ 1-800 number on my bank card. If it’s a phone call, tell them that you will need to call them back and call the the banks’ 1-800 number on your bank card. ALL of the approaches to me were scammers. Please protect yourselves.

Latest scam report is from the Alberta Motor Association. If you are a member beware of a phishing email with an offer to win an extremely discounted emergency kit. This from a recent email: We’ve received numerous messages from members and non-members reporting a scam where recipients receive an email with a chance to win a car emergency kit. They’re instructed to answer a survey regarding their experience with the auto club or given an offer to purchase an extremely discounted emergency kit. The sender’s email address varies, but it’s never any of our verified email addresses, which always end in @email.ama.ab.ca, @ama.ab.ca, @amaemail.ca, or @express.medallia.com. If you receive one of these fraudulent emails: Do not click any links or provide any information. Take a screenshot and report it to us at reportphishing@ama.ab.ca. Report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online through the Fraud Reporting System. Report it as spam in your email app. If you clicked on any links or provided personal information, be sure to take the following precautions: Change any passwords associated with the email you provided, including any financial institutions and your AMA Online Account. Notify your financial institution if banking information was entered, or a payment made. Report the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. The AMA has a scam alert section on their website. Check it out. https://lnkd.in/gv4M9bsp

In many cases that is far from the truth as we are really trying to help you, our customer, better understand the risk and where to invest to manage that risk. Here is a good example of vendor neutral material we share to help our customers understand the risks involved with technology in their business. #cybersecurity #cyberattacks #scammers
