Did you know that your lawn could be a secret goldmine for water savings? 💧🌿 Recently, I learned about water utilities offering rebates for replacing traditional lawns with zero scapes. It can be like turning your yard into an eco-friendly savings account! This whole idea struck me as a fascinating blend of conservation and incentive. While it's not a one-size-fits-all solution, it's a shining example of how local initiatives can make a big difference. The water market, unlike the vast energy sector, is a mosaic of local districts, each with its own set of rules and rewards. But here's the ray of hope: many utilities are keen to partner with you on water conservation efforts. They offer not just rebates but a sense of community involvement in preserving our most precious resource. I'm curious, have you ever considered tapping into these local programs? Will they changed the way you think about every drop you use? Let's discuss and share our experiences. And if you're diving deep into water conservation like I am, don't forget to subscribe for more insights and tips. 🌊📢

It’s all about the power of transformative partnerships.
Partnerships are critical to helping create a #WaterPositiveFuture.💧 Through collaboration with on-the-ground partners like Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), River Partners, National Audubon Society, Colorado River Indian Tribes and others who have a deep knowledge of local challenges, communities and landscapes in water-stressed areas, we're supporting solutions through local water restoration projects that improve, better manage or protect freshwater resources. As part of our strategy to help build a water positive future, we’re working to restore more water than is consumed at P&G manufacturing sites located in 18 water-stressed areas and restore more water than is consumed when using P&G products in the high water-stressed metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and Mexico City. #ItsOurHome

Since its inception, Save the Great South Bay, 501(c)3 has stood for one core message above all others: We need to reduce the amount of nitrogen that seeps from the mainland into the bay. The vast majority of households in Suffolk county have cesspools, which release massive amounts of harmful nitrogen into our groundwater eventually making its way into the water. Rebuilding our infrastructure to a more sustainable solution is not easy nor is it cheap. As an organization, we do what we can to combat degraded water quality by keeping our creeks clean, increasing populations of helpful shellfish like oysters, and planting native species to absorb nitrogen before it reaches the water. But make no mistake, the single most important thing we can do is to spread awareness about the large-scale changes that need to be made in order to see permanent improvement of water quality. This Septic Improvement Program is a big step in the right direction, and gives us a lot of hope going into 2024. However the recent infusion of $20 million into the program will help offset the costs at 800 homes. This is a drop in the bucket for the 360,000 homes with outdated cesspools. There is still a long way to go, but it is encouraging to see that this is finally becoming a priority among NY policy-makers and stakeholders. When prioritising tree planting and wider improvements to green infrastructure networks according to greatest benefit, there are some really good on-line tools available now. Natural England's Green Infrastructure tool is particularly clear and helpful. Currently working out getting the best from this and the Woodland Trust's Tree Equity mapping. https://lnkd.in/eHs62G7K https://lnkd.in/eAd4fc-G Below: an interesting but challenging image demonstrating the value placed on access to local green spaces and the cost to those who manage them. #greeninfrastructure, #trees, #equityandinclusion, #woodlands, #woodland, #countryside, #environment

Environmental Benefits of Healthy Lawns Healthy lawns offer numerous environmental benefits, including: 1. Erosion prevention: Grass roots hold soil in place, reducing soil erosion from wind and water. 2. Improved flood control: Lawns can absorb rainfall, reducing stormwater runoff and alleviating pressure on drainage systems. 3. Wildlife habitat: Lawns can provide food, shelter, and habitat for various wildlife, such as bees, butterflies, and birds. 4. Cooling effect: Lawns can be 30°F (16°C) cooler than surrounding pavement and buildings, reducing urban heat islands. 5. Visual appeal: Well-maintained lawns enhance aesthetic value, boosting property values and community pride. By maintaining a healthy lawn, you're contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly community!

Compelled by a history of frequent and long-lasting droughts, #California has adopted sophisticated conservation methods for its most precious resource - 💧 water. For the state’s many #waterconservation districts, this involves precise calculation of watering budgets for outdoor spaces, which requires accurate #landcover classification. Rancho Water partnered with DCSE, a resale partner of Hexagon, to raise its classification accuracy above 96% for key land cover types using high-resolution #aerialimagery and #elevationmodels from the HxGN Content Program – a major achievement for #sustainability solutions in the Golden State. Read the full case study to learn how the collaboration enabled Rancho California Water District to implement effective water conservation measures. ➡️ https://hxgn.biz/4a2jxYz

Water is one of our most precious resources, and how we protect it (or fail to) affects not only the thousands of other people who rely on the same rivers, lakes and streams, but our entire ecosystem of animals, plants and more. Fortunately, there are simply steps you can take a home to help keep our shared waters healthier for the future. Check out my article on Stroud Water Research Center's website at https://lnkd.in/ew4rhM9M and huge thanks to Jennifer Zelenke Merrill, MBA, PhD for the opportunity to write it! #water #environment
