🚔🚨👮🏼♂️ Speaking Up Against Injustice: My Experience with Greater Manchester Police 🚔🚨👮🏼♂️ Using my platforms, I must speak up when a wrong has been done—and this time, it was to me. Recently, I was pulled over by GMP, and sadly, this was another statistic that I know all too well. Let me take you through what happened. For those who know me, you know my little lad is football-obsessed. As a proud dad, I spend a lot of time driving him to training and games, often with his 3-year-old sister in tow. On this day, I had both kids in the car and was driving through Monsall/Harpurhey. A police car pulled out behind me, and I thought nothing of it—until they blocked me in at the training car park. I got out of my car, and the officers' first words were, “You alright?” After responding, they asked if I had my license or ID—neither of which I had on me. The officer then said, “Well, now we have a problem.” I was stunned. What had I done? Why was this happening? The officer claimed I was driving erratically in a 20mph zone, what?? - with kids in the back and police behind me c'mon. The passenger officer ran my plates, confirmed my name, and after 10 long minutes with parents watching, the driver accused me of “pulling the race card” when I questioned his attitude and for a legitimate reason as to why i was stopped. The passenger officer looked embarrassed, and after more back-and-forth, they eventually left without any further explanation. Here’s the uncomfortable truth: I was pulled over because I’m a Black man driving a nice car with tinted windows. The moment they saw my kids, they realised their assumptions were wrong. But the driver couldn’t let it go. This isn’t the first time I’ve been pulled over, but it’s the first time I’ve publicly shared this because GMP needs to be better. This wasn’t just an inconvenience; it affected my kids. My son thought I was in trouble, clinging to my arm, worried that his dad might be taken away. Now, he jokes about it, but at the time, he was scared. And that’s a memory I never wanted my children to have. The parents in the car park watching on supported me by speaking up thank you, but for those who were further back being nosey 😀 they will have some form of negative perception possibly of me. GMP, your officers don’t need to approach every Black man in a nice car with aggression. I want to be a role model for my kids, not someone who gets pulled over and treated unfairly. I’ll gladly educate your officers on community behavior and better policing, but this has to stop. I’m sharing my story to drive change because our kids deserve a better future. Early intervention is crucial to preventing knife and weapon crime. Make Life Kind school speakers have already educated thousands of young people about the reality and consequences of knife crime through their real-life stories. The charity has already seen the impact of their school speaker sessions, with thousands of young people educated and dozens having handed in knives. But more needs to be done. That’s why we’re raising funds, with a plan to educate at least 40,000 young people in schools across the North West. Come together for an evening of entertainment, inspiring talks, raffles, and auctions, with 100% of proceeds going directly to funding our anti-knife crime education initiative. Expect a DJ set from LORDZDJ, a live performance from Shocka, and inspiring talks from community leaders and anti-knife crime campaigners. 🏅 Reflecting on My Olympic Experience in Paris 🏅 A few weeks ago, I shared my excitement about heading to Paris for the Olympics — and wow, it did not disappoint! If you caught my earlier post, you’ll remember I went into it with zero expectations. Some of you even shared some amazing recommendations, which I’m so grateful for. But let me tell you, seeing the Olympics live hits different! 🎯 These athletes… they are truly something else. Watching them in person gave me a whole new level of appreciation for the sheer dedication, precision, and countless hours of training they pour into their craft. The tiniest tweaks in their performance can mean the difference between a Gold and Silver medal — it’s mind-blowing. While I may not tune in every four years, I now have a deep respect for what these incredible athletes achieve. But that’s not all! This experience was made even more special thanks to our brand, which gifted me moments I’ll never forget.
