Her influence even extends to real estate. 🏘 🔼 A new Architectural Digest study finds home prices rose by 2.1% in cities hosting her 2023 Eras Tour, compared to the national average of 0.5%. 🔹 Atlanta 8.8% 🔹 Tampa 8.2% 🔹 Minneapolis 5.5% 🔶 Nashville 4.7% 🔹 Chicago 4.3% Researchers highlight the tour’s economic impact and its role as a catalyst for potential relocations. 🏡 Architectural Digest also surveyed 1,000 concertgoers who traveled to see Swift and their perception of the host cities’ reputation. One in five who ventured to a different city for the show said they are now contemplating moving there. 👨💻 As a researcher specializing in community-based and participatory research, I'm committed to asking who isn't invited to the table. Whose voice is not included in decision-making? What ways can we use education and research to build community and work towards equity? After working with Yonkers youth experiencing gentrification, I've seen the ways developers and municipalities ignore the lived experiences of some of their most important community members: young people! 🏙 The New York Times article "Williamsburg: What Happened?" is an excellent example of using visuals and research to construct an informative timeline of major events that have shaped the Brooklyn neighborhood over the past 36 years. It beautifully outlines how Williamsburg follows Phillip Clay's stages of gentrification, including PE Moskowitz's fifth stage when neighborhoods become luxury commodities. Take a look at Sam Stein's Capital City for more information! 🏗 And yet, the article doesn't do a good job highlighting the voices of those impacted by gentrification. Just calling it "Peak gentrification" is only part of the battle. 🏘 I want to hear the stories and voices of those displaced, those struggling to stay, and those fighting to preserve community. https://lnkd.in/eqZkiWYC

Kerry Harker has written this passionate and insightful reflection on how the arts and culture are ill considered by city authorities. But if a lively city like Leeds can’t see the value of the arts, what hope is there in small towns and rural areas. There’s a complete lack of respect for the arts across the board in the current environment. The value the arts bring is not well served by our advocates. Not enough of the evidence being gathered is being developed into strong punchy messages that politicians, and the wider public, can understand. Rural local authorities seem to see the arts and culture as an “extra”, when, in fact, they are integral to our sense of identity. The arts provide employment The generate spend around them They support the local economy They provide support networks for those who are vulnerable in our communities They make places to visit, work, live, learn, play, grow, develop They make places! Banks are closing, shops are closing… I guess the plan is to move people into the town centres to live. But what will they do? Drink, gamble, eat, get a haircut or a beauty treatment. There is such a lack of direction for small towns and rural areas across the UK that it is frankly unsurprising that social problems exist.

At a recent workshop, an important question came up: How does affordable housing account for ageing? Will the homes we live in today still meet our needs when we're older? An excellent example of how to visualize boredom not only in architecture, but in general, how it takes over the everyday life of mankind. It is worth thinking deeper in all aspects.

"Form follows function" rings true, but we've overlooked a vital function—emotion. Designing supposedly functional places devoid of emotional connection renders them truly non-functional. The physical realm holds immense power, yet opportunities to evoke emotion are missed everywhere. Last century, a culture of pride in craft was annihilated. If we imagine the head, hand and heart, we lost the hand from our approach to building, and inadvertently lost the heart along with it. Designing emotionless 'functional' spaces is a colossal error. It's time to spark a dialogue and create spaces that resonate emotionally. Only a small fraction of the population ever goes inside a gallery. But the bit we share, the true cultural gallery of our lives, are the streets. It's time to reclaim these spaces from mediocrity. Join the conversation. Here's why: 1. You get to work in an interdisciplinary capacity that bridges different mediums and representatives together to solve a diverse array of community challenges. 2. You can channel your creativity to brainstorm ways to implement the arts on a larger community, city, or regional scale to foster the arts through: #publicart, #economicdevelopment, and #art in #transit 3. If you go the #landuse or #zoning route, you can work to implement policies and land development regulations that encourage uses, like live /work spaces, arts studios, arts venues, and community centers. You can also generate public art/mural incentives to developers. 4. If you go into housing planning, you can work to implement policies and planning for #affordablehousing for artists and other community members. 5. You can plan & implement #creativeplacemaking projects, like murals, painted intersections (for traffic calming), pop-up galleries, amphitheaters, and arts installations! Am I missing anything? 🎨🖼🎭🩰🎶📝
