“For most people, purpose at work is built not found. Working with a sense of purpose day-in and day-out is an act of will that takes thoughtfulness and practice. How do you consciously endow your work with purpose? First, connect work to service. Ask yourself, who do I serve? Connecting your day-to-day jobs — consciously and concretely — to those we’re ultimately serving makes completing that work more purposeful. Next, craft your work – and make work a craft. Shape your tasks to make them more meaningful, and dedicate yourself to learning perfecting key skills in the role. Then, invest in positive relationships by developing collegial relationships at work. Finally, remember why you work. This is such a critical re-humanization of business. Ignoring the "customer" of our work is the fastest way not only to irrelevance but lackluster performance. This is one of the reasons why funding everything through the government is a mistake. You cannot remain sensitive to the consumer if you are no longer accountable to them daily, and business does that best. Society does not need to rely on a massive government infrastructure, but on the people who represent the companies that serve us. Companies have worked hard over the last 30 years to learn and apply this, so let's not lose what we know now! #strategicthinking

This article really speaks to me. These things help me get energized each day to think about 1) who is my work serving today? 2) Am I investing in positive relationships when presented with the opportunity? 3) What do I need to do to be the best at what I’m doing? 4) Why do I work—simply to pay bills or to do the things I want to do in life—and am I doing those things?

As a young company doubling our staff every six months, here are 5 soft skills we look for in our candidates: 1. Passion We look for people who burn for what they do. Being in love with your job is the only way to make sure you’ll show up with the energy you need to deliver results. 2. Commitment to keep going. When passion fades, you need commitment - commitment to the company, its mission, and delivering results. Or what is the same, pull yourself together, and get things done. 3. Personal improvement. Wanting to be better, always. Never being satisfied and pushing your limits consistently. Do you have a desire to be constantly improving? That’s good. Show it. 4. Structural and analytical thinking. We need people who can think logically and solve problems creatively and effectively. Not only smart and academically trained people but also people who can solve any situation that they may come across. 5. Directness. Expressing your thoughts and feelings openly can avoid things getting worse. Even negative thoughts. Even when it’s to say you’re not comfortable. Did some of the above resonate?
