Get the f*%k off your comfort zone!! Did you ever: - stuck from time to time and feels like Quicksand - explore unpaved roads? - handle uncertain environments? - had to react on unexpected obstacles were fast reaction is a must? - had to 100% concentrate on whats going on in front of you? - trust your abilities? - used a path for the first time? - been explorative? - drop or fail and do it again, and again, and…? Do you still think I’m talking about Offroad Adventure Motocycling? All the points listed above are valid for leadership within engineering environment too. We living in a damn fast world e.g.VUCA, Digitalization which doesn’t need any further explanation. You need to adapt very fast or be out…like to be offroad. I’m used drive offroad which is legally possible around Berlin (and in the North Germany) from time to time to get the head free from all topics. Right after I feel really relaxed even if I’m totally exhausted. I see a bunch of similarities as leader in here too. You have to handle often uncertain situations or facing obstacles which you didn’t recognized before. But even than you have to drive forward, as leader you’re the head for your Team, even if you know it will be hard a rough tough environment. All eyes are on you and if you drop you’re bike, which happens much more often than you think, you have to take this a chance to learn from it and grow even further. Next situation runs better for sure. If I’m on an topic, I’m 100% focused on this to drive it and get it done whatever it takes. This generally reflects a lot of my personal values. And tell you what, if you do it in a Team it makes much more fun, valid for both for it! That’s why I passionate about both. This is what drives me… Ready for driving offroad? 😎

When it comes to adventure riding, the right gear and skills make all the difference. 🏍️ ✅ Start with a solid pair of rigid sole boots to keep foot fatigue in check—preserving your energy for those long off-road days. ✅ Next, invest in your skills. Adventure bike training isn't just a bonus—it's essential. At Ride Adventures, we focus on teaching core fundamentals to help you handle your bike with confidence. But here’s a tip: Don’t take a course the week before a big ride! You need time to practice and master what you’ve learned. If you're new to the endeavor, we've got essential off-roading tips for beginners, according to a renowned expert. You’d be hard-pressed to find a higher authority in off-roading than Brad Lovell. Since he started competing two decades ago, Lovell has won just about every major off-road competition there is from the rocks of Johnson Valley to the wide-open deserts of Baja California. At Janus Motorcycles, we espouse a different kind of riding than what is promoted by the mainstream motorcycle industry. We call it "rambling". For a broader perspective, "rambling" can be compared to something like “cruising” in a sailboat. The great Bristol, Rhode Island yacht designer and writer, L. Francis Herreshoff, in his book The Compleat Cruiser had this to say of “cruising” in a sailboat: “Leaving the naval significance of the word aside, I would say cruising meant leisurely sailing or moving from place to place in search of pleasure, and has distinctly the opposite meaning from racing.” By pleasure, L. Francis is talking about fun, but it is a somewhat cramped, often wet, and potentially dangerous fun. Racing, for L. Francis, (son of possibly the greatest racing yacht designer of all time) was only one aspect of the sailing that he knew so intimately. He is quoted as saying, “the definition of a good boat is if it delivers the sensation of sailing”. That “sensation of sailing” is something that the rambler will instantly recognize. It is the moment where the creak of the wooden planking, the vibrations of the motorcycle engine, or the rolling curves of the highway become a part of us, or we of them. It is the moment when we can feel ourselves being transformed, and of being aware of that transformation. To learn more about what we mean by "rambling", the benefits of this approach to motorcycling, and how sailing has anything to do with motorcycles, watch this space for more on my soon-to-be-published book, The Rambler's Companion. Available soon from Janus Motorcycles and Amazon.com. The below image is my rendition of a Herreshoff drawing of Newport cat boat from the book. #motorcycles #adventure #fun #cruising #rambling
