#Veterans excel at achieving the mission, it is ingrained in every one of us. Every mission we head into the unknown; territory, vehicle position, role in the squad, or receipt of an oporder. Additionally, many of us had 4+ years to master the 10 core competencies within the Durable Skill framework necessary to achieve any mission, i.e.: communication, fortitude, creativity, and collaboration. Lastly, #LinkedIn's 2023 Veteran Opportunity Report cites veterans on average master 8 out of 10 competencies! This is why veterans excel in #startups and in #ITcareers. TBT, thirty years ago I was an enlisted soldier in the 82nd Airborne Division and had the opportunity to meet my best friend, the M-60. The last time I had used one was years prior in Basic Training. The mission called for me to become an expert in the weapon, and over time I did. We jumped together. Slept together. Heck, even worked out together. Like all members of the armed services, we adapt, overcome, master new skills, and achieve the mission. The time is now, to reach out to a veteran. -- Ask them how they are doing. -- Ask them about the type of career they want to pursue. -- Ask them if they need assistance in pursuing a new career. Made up of: Team Lead: TSgt Tyler Schmitt, Team Innovators: MSgt Andrew McCamish and SSgt Wade Bryden, and Team Coaches: Major Theresa Crampton and TSgt Mariana Hernández-Chávez! 🎯 The Challenge Statement: "How might we minimize combat sortie generation timelines to meet pacing threat challenges?" 🛠️ The Challenge: Flying units across the Air Force face a significant logistical and financial burden in safely operating the F-35A. The necessity to ship bulky Red Gear, essential for post-flight procedures, incurs thousands of dollars annually. Traditionally, units have relied on ISU containers, transporting them via truck or military air transport to their deployment or temporary duty locations. This method not only proves costly but also consumes several pallets' worth of space for each trip, hindering operational efficiency and readiness. 💡 The Breakthrough: The solution for this logistical challenge is ingeniously simple yet transformative – the Red Gear Packout Kit. This innovation shrinks the necessary equipment to a backpack-sized set for each F-35A. This strategic approach aligns perfectly with the Agile Combat Employment (ACE) initiative's principles, emphasizing space, cost, and time savings through innovation. 🌐 The Solution: The Red Gear Packout Kit revolutionizes the way flying units operate. It enables the consolidation of a single jet's Red Gear into a backpack that can be stowed behind the ejection seat or inside a travel pod. This compact design allows for transporting up to three kits in one pod or one kit per aircraft. It effectively eliminates the need for multiple pallets and ISUs, enabling units to rapidly deploy without the logistical hassle of loading pallets onto transport vehicles. The ultimate goal of this project is to integrate these kits into the Joint Strike Fighter Supply System, making them readily available to all F-35A units and bypassing the need for local unit funding. - 1st year as an Air Force pilot was pure hell. - 2nd year was still hard but better than the first. - 3rd year was the best. We would have more and more "freedom" year after year. But then, even if one piece of that freedom would be taken away for one day... It would always feel really hard, because we were used to something better. And now my clients still ask me: "How were you able to persist all these years building your business?" The truth: I've been through worse times. And that is always going to be the answer. 🚁 Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to join the military, let alone become one of the first women to fly the Apache helicopter. Applying to colleges, I laughed when my father suggested applying to the Academies. And then as a student at Duke, I thought I would try ROTC. I loved my fellow student cadets, who also believed in service above self, and knew the value of hard work. Our cadre were exceptional and invested in each one of us. At the end of four years at college, I requested and was assigned Army aviation-- just as attack aviation opened to women, and I had the opportunity to earn the chance to fly the most technologically advanced helicopter in the world. Life has a way of presenting unexpected paths that lead to remarkable experiences and profound growth. Here are a few lessons I’ve learned on this incredible journey: 🌟 Grit and resilience are Key: Every challenge, from the rigorous training to the demanding missions, taught me the importance of mental and physical resilience. (if you haven't already, check out The Grit Factor). 🌟 Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: The success of any mission relies on the strength and cohesion of the team. Only two pilots fly the Apache, but it took a whole team to get us off the ground. 🌟Adaptability is Crucial: Flying an Apache in diverse and often unpredictable conditions, and working with wildly diverse teams under considerable stressors honed my ability to adapt swiftly and efficiently. 🌟Leadership is Earned: True leadership is about service, integrity, and leading by example. The military provided a unique platform to develop these qualities in ways I could have never imagined.
