Our discussion covered a wide range of topics, from sustainability and seafarer welfare to the role of technology in the future of shipping. Addressing the pressing challenges faced by seafarers, Capt Chawla shed light on the industry's need to better support these dedicated professionals. He spoke passionately about the mental health and well-being of seafarers, underscoring the significance of continuous mental health support during their prolonged periods away from home. Mental health remains a pivotal concern. Addressing this stigma is crucial to ensuring that seafarers receive the care and support they need, fostering a healthier and more productive workforce. 👷♂️ National Tradie Health Month 👷♀️ In August, we focus on raising awareness of the health and injury risks associated with trade occupations. We aim to support tradespeople, their families, and employers by providing the necessary resources and knowledge to promote worker well-being. Our efforts emphasise the importance of awareness and the adoption of safe practices within these physically demanding professions. According to the latest Key Work Health and Safety Statistics 2023, the findings reveal that: 🚩The cause of most work-related injuries in Australia were body stressing, Falls, slips and trips. 🚩Vehicle incidents and being hit by moving objects continue to account for most fatalities. 🚩Work-related mental health conditions are rising, with time off work in these cases more than four times longer than for other injuries. Adopting these quick and simple habits can significantly contribute to promoting a safer environment for your colleagues: ⭐Developing high quality risk assessment to identify relevant hazards and their controls measures. ⭐Ensure you have sufficient Height safety equipment such as fall arrest/fall restraint system (and understanding when each would be adequate). ⭐Wear appropriate PPE at all times however, understanding PPE is a last resort and other control measures should be considered. ⭐Check in on your mates, keep the conversation going around WHS (including mental health). #safetyfirst #safetecgroup #tradiehealthmonth #safetyculture
