As the President of Chapter 40 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) I am so privileged to take part in and be able to support our amazing team of volunteers that make possible programs like Young Eagles and EAA Chapter 40’s Project: JACKPOT which is featured in this article. What is even more exciting for me is seeing the youth take hold of making these programs their own, bringing a whole new level of success that could not be realized without their enthusiasm and inspiration. Our chapter has taken its place among the top 5 busiest chapters out of over 900 EAA chapters worldwide. To this date, our Young Eagles Program has flown just shy of 11,000 students (age 7-17) which we will most likely surpass this weekend at Whiteman Airport. EAA Chapter 40's Project: JACKPOT (A youth program age 14 to early college age that is building a 2-seat aircraft) is 75% completed with building a Zenith CH750 Cruzer which could possibly be flying next year. The best part of all of this, next to seeing the youth taking ownership of their programs, is seeing our adult members who are aviation enthusiasts with some of them building their own aircraft as well, taking part in inspiring youth in our community to be a larger part of the world of aviation and preparing them for the amazingly wide-ranging career field. Being an Aviation student has allowed me to dive into the fascinating world of airplanes, airports, and everything related to aviation. From learning about the principles of flight to understanding the intricate systems of an aircraft, every day is filled with new discoveries and challenges. One of the things I love most about being an Aviation student is the hands-on experience. Whether it's getting to sit in the cockpit and learn about the controls or participating in flight simulations, it's an exhilarating feeling to be so close to the action. 🚀✨ But it's not just about the technical aspects. Being an Aviation student also means being part of a community of passionate individuals who share the same love for aviation. The connections and friendships I've made along the way have been invaluable, and it's inspiring to be surrounded by people who are just as excited about aviation as I am. 🫶🏻 Of course, there are challenges too. Aviation is a complex field that requires attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety. But these challenges only make the journey more rewarding. Every obstacle I overcome brings me one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a pilot or working in the aviation industry. 🌠💪 It's a field that combines my passion for travel, technology, and adventure, and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me next. And that is the Capstone Project complete. All taught modules of the Cranfield University #MSc_Safety_and_Human_Factors_in_Aviation complete. Over the last two weeks we’ve had a taster of what it feels like to conduct group research under time pressure, working together to apply the things we’ve learnt in the last 8 months to future proofing the aviation industry and risk assessing Single Pilot Operations. Friday morning all four groups presented and it was fascinating to see how we ended up using very similar methodology but coming up with very different insights based on our own experiences and background. I really enjoyed leading Group 1 with King-Yee KO, who has many years working as an aircraft technician in Hong Kong, Cornelius Chukwuma who is an experienced Nigerian Air Force engineer officer and Nishant Patel (Student Affiliate RAeS) who recently completed a bachelor’s degree in aircraft maintenance, having carried out his studies in Ukraine after moving there from India. We were the only group with such similar professional backgrounds but it is fascinating to see how the differences in experience and culture played a part in our analysis. I’m excited about some of the conclusions we’ve reached and am keen to develop our core concept further. All in all the Capstone project really highlighted to me the great privilege I have been granted to take a year out of my career as a Royal Air Force engineer officer to study full time with a wonderful group of people who are all as passionate as I am about making our skies safer. My perspective has grown so much over the time we’ve had together, and while I’m so grateful to the RAF and the Chief of the Air Staff’s Fellowship scheme for the opportunity, it has been made truly valuable by the staff at Cranfield and the students who have shared their time and their insights with me. Now we all turn our focus to our Individual Research Projects. I came into this degree with a proposal already prepared - it was part of my Fellowship application process and the real motivation for me in applying for the course was to do research into #fatigue_management_in_aviation_maintenance. But I was so interested during project proposal time a few months ago on the topics that my colleagues were selecting. It’s going to be an interesting few months! In the meantime, here’s the summary line from the report that Group 1 of the Cranfield Univeristy MSc SHFA Capstone study have submitted. *We are not yet at the end of our technological evolution in aviation. This is just a step along the way, and we cannot know where it will lead. The journey may yet take us to other places that we have not yet imagined. 👷 ANA, JAL launch scholarship for flight mechanics amid shortage 👷 ⭕ ANA Holdings Inc and Japan Airlines Co have cooperated in the launch of a scholarship program to address a shortage of aircraft mechanics, with demand for air transportation anticipated to grow ⭕ #ANA and #JAL Engineering Co, a JAL subsidiary in charge of aircraft maintenance, will offer up to 500,000 yen annually free of interest to those enrolled in nine designated training schools across Japan in fiscal 2024 or after ⭕ Up to 100 students per grade entering the nine schools will be eligible for the scholarship. Screenings will be conducted if the number of applicants exceeds the limit ⭕ Recipients of the #scholarship must pay it back within eight years after they graduate from their schools, but they can recoup the fees if they become employed in either of the two companies and obtain necessary national certifications "Securing human resources is an industry-wide issue.
