This week is Neurodiversity celebration week. Ironically we are going through an incredibly hard time with our neuro-spicy family just now... possibly the hardest ever. My kids are amazing- intuitive, smart, interesting, funny and sensitive souls. They bring unique perspectives and ideas and the world is a better place for having them in it. This- I can celebrate. However, just like when people told me as a new parent to 'enjoy every minute' I'm finding it hard to 'celebrate' in this season. When I reflect on things, much of what makes my children's lives harder is the systems and environments around them. Like penguins in the jungle, they are not adapted for the environments they find themselves in, and this can cause immense anxiety and suffering to them and to those around them. Recent research from the PDA Society shows the dire mental health situation of people with the PDA profile of autism for example. https://lnkd.in/em2YybCw Don't let 'neurodiversity celebration' be tokenistic. We need to see real changes to the systems (education/health/social/work cultures) so that we can cut back the jungle, turn down the heat and create the right environments to help 'penguins' to thrive. https://lnkd.in/eR2izprb PDA Parents #pdaawareness #autismacceptance #autismawareness #adhd

This week is the “Neurodiversity Celebration Week”, a time to honor our diverse brains. The concept of neurodiversity encompasses the variety of human brains, including both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals. It was introduced by Judy Singer in the late 1990s. We experience and interact with the world around us in many different ways. There is no single “correct” way to perceive, process, think, feel, learn, or act. It’s crucial that these differences are not by default seen as disabilities, deficiencies or abnormalities. Let us remember that all types of brains are essential ❤️. Without neurodivergent individuals, the world would be far less fascinating, lacking alternative perspectives, and missing out on all the remarkable things they contribute! 😄 Do you want to deep dive into different topics related to Neurodiversity, this week offer a lot of free interesting and inspiring webinars from Neurodiversityweek.com. Take a look and sign up for free. https://lnkd.in/dxwU8rut Even if the timeslot, do not suit your calendar, sign up as you will receive the recording afterwards. #Neurodiversity #awareness #DEI #Autism #ADHD #Dyslexia

Embracing the Spectrum: Neurodiversity Next week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, Monday 18 - Sunday 24 March. We have a host of events planned at Hato Hone St John, but where do you start? Neurodiversity celebrates the vibrant tapestry of human thought, recognising that brains function across a beautiful spectrum. While some navigate the world with a “neurotypical” blueprint, others experience it through unique lenses like autism, ADHD, or dyslexia. While these variations can bring challenges, they also unlock great strengths often overlooked. Supporting neurodiversity starts with understanding. Seek out information beyond stereotypes or what you THINK you know. Listen actively to neurodivergent voices, appreciating their perspectives and experiences. Simple gestures like offering clear instructions, respecting sensory needs, and celebrating individual strengths can make a world of difference. Remember, embracing neurodiversity isn’t about fixing differences, but appreciating them. By creating inclusive environments and fostering open communication, we can empower everyone to thrive, enriching our world with the full spectrum of human potential. Start there. #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #ncw2024

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week: https://lnkd.in/evCqu3Fj. Approximately 1 in 7 people in the UK have some form of neurodiversity, which includes conditions like autism spectrum disorder (ASC), dyslexia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Neurodiversity is the concept that all humans vary in terms of our neurocognitive ability. Everyone has both talents and things they struggle with. However, for some people the variation between those strengths (super powers) and challenges is more pronounced, which can bring advantage but can also be disabling. Neurodivergent people tend to find some things very easy and other things incredibly hard. Neurodiversity can be a competitive advantage when the individuals are in the right environment, making use of their strengths, instead of constantly trying to overcome challenges. To achieve this we must create inclusive spaces to work and learn that reduce disabling factors and amplify diverse abilities. The global challenges facing the world of climate mitigation and resilience, biodiversity loss and social equity are systemic - where an intervention in one part can have an impact, both positive or negative, in another. To solve them we therefore need people who see the world differently - including having a systemic, bigger picture view. We also need to re-think our economic, funding, business and procurement models. I therefore think that neurodiverse people are going to play a leading role in getting us out of the mess that we have created - bring on the new and creative ideas! Shout out to organisations like ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity and Made By Dyslexia who are doing such great stuff in this space. How many of you nice people knew it was Neurodiversity Celebration Week next week? I didn’t till about a month ago, but now I do so I’m going to tell everyone I know – just in case you didn’t know. I’m lucky that my employer, Connection Support, are very neurodiverse friendly. It’s a safe space to be “you” and it’s a place that encourages people to help others; after all it is kinda in our DNA... I’m a joint founder of the Neurodiverse Support Group at Connection Support, and this week, we’re doing a presentation to our senior managers on what ADHD is and how to support those living with it. Many people who haven’t had direct exposure to ADHD misunderstand what it is, and I spent a lot of time explaining how it affects me. But that is how it affects me, because it affects everyone differently. There’s a phrase I love which summarises it well: "if you know one person with ADHD, you know one person with ADHD". I found this website recently, https://lnkd.in/ecpRJzmp, which I love because of the support material it provides to schools, universities, students, parents and organisations. So... What are you, and your organisation, doing to celebrate Neurodiversity Week, support your neurodiverse colleagues, and raise awareness of the need to support and accept neurodiversity?#adhd #neurodiversityatwork

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and from a personal point of view, marks my one year anniversary of being diagnosed with #adhd. It has been a turbulent year for me in various aspects of my life... with the end of one chapter in my personal life as well as starting a new adventure with a new job in a new sector and in an unfamiliar industry. This last year has been one hell of a journey! Coming to terms with what ADHD means to me as an individual as well as how it has shaped my life so far... it has cast a new light on past difficulties and opened up prospects to how to manage them in the future. Every day is but one part of this journey that I believe will never end. Like many other people who identify as #neurodivergent, I suffer from imposter syndrome, rejection sensitive dysphoria, object permanence (or forgetting where I put my keys/wallet/cup/anything(!) that was literally in my hand a minute ago), anxiety, fidgeting and stimming, and many more challenging associated symptoms and traits. But despite these 'negative' challenges, there are many other aspects to ADHD that I try to embrace every day, such as hyper-focus, attention to detail, boundless energy, out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, multi-tasking, and the *millions* of interests and hobbies! For me, diagnosis was the first step on this path of understanding and adjustment. Beyond this, I have exploited this new found knowledge in my volunteering with young people; being able to be truly empathic from a place of lived-experience is so useful, and I can see the appreciation that the children have when I handle situations with them in mind and not expecting their conformance to the societal norms built around the neurotypical person! It's almost the end of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, but why not check www.neurodiversityweek.com to find out more about how you can increase your awareness and provide support to make a more inclusive and accommodating environment for friends, family and colleagues!

Neurodiveristy Celebration Week - 18th to 24th March 2024 This is a week to celebrate and raise awareness as to the variety of conditions that fall within the umbrella term of 'NeuroDiversity'. This is a term most often associated with autism and ADHD, but there are other conditions that fall under the umbrella; and in fact, it is quite common to have more than one neurodiverse condition. The variety of conditions that fall under the term 'Neurodiveristy' include: Autism ADHD Dyslexia Dyspraxia Dyscalculia Dysgraphia Developmental Language Disorder Tourettes There is a specific website especially for this week - https://lnkd.in/enFmR2k3 This site provides an abundance of information and resources about all things neurodiverse; including recordings for the abundance of webinars arranged covering a variety of topics in respect of neurodiveristy. Over the course of this week, I have attended several such seminars, and I was humbled, educated and inspired by the variety of wonderful people on the panels. I would most certainly encourage anyone interested in learning more to check these out – https://lnkd.in/eafVHJ3F #neurodiversitycelebrationweek #NDCW #neurodiversity #equality #diversity #inclusion #awareness

Our brains works differently... 🧠 As part of MRS Unlimited we support Neurodiversity Celebration week and the power of thinking differently. 🙌 Personally, I really appreciate working with people who think differently to me and the opportunity to support each other with our own unique skills! 💫 My brain works differently... but that's what makes me problem solve in creative ways, great at ideation and at pattern recognition. 💥 How can your unique way of thinking make a positive impact?
At MRS Unlimited we celebrate diversity of thought & thinking differently! 🙌 This week is Neurodiversity Celebration week (link below), a time to recognise and appreciate that we don't all think in the same way. 🧠 There is a wide variety of thinking and learning style and ways of interacting with the world. People with dyslexia, autism, ADHD and other neurological thinking bring there own unique perspectives. 💥 Diversity of thought is important in the research that we do as there is strength in our differences and in supporting each other. When people with different approaches are appreciated and empowered to work together - we can achieve great things! 💪 This week, let's embrace the power of thinking differently - both in our teams at work and in making our research more inclusive! 👌 For regular updates from us please follow our MRS Unlimited Linkedin page #neurodiversitycelebrationweek #neurodiversity #thinkdifferently #MRSUnlimited https://lnkd.in/eXyzcTVh

🎉This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week! Neurodiversity Celebration Week was set up in order to highlight the 15 - 20% of the population with a neurological difference, and how we can work towards more inclusive organisations. These alternative ways of thinking are sometimes referred to by their diagnoses, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, autism and ADHD. Many people live with a neurological difference without ever getting diagnosed, so it’s important we set up our organisations and society to support neurodiversity by default. At Enviresearch, we are trying to build an organisation that is more inclusive for all staff. Although we are early in our journey, we have already made some clear steps forward, supporting flexible working, compressed hours or part-time work so that people can work in the ways that most suit their lives, needs and preferences. We recently ran a survey asking our team about their working environments at home and in the office to better understand how we can create a comfortable working environment for everyone. The RSK Group Neurodiversity Network, a network established by our parent company, has been a fantastic community for some team members to join, to discuss lived experiences, share tips and support neurodiverse colleagues or allies. We are working on cascading information and resources received from this network throughout our organisation. This week, many of our staff members are signing up to workshops being run by the Neurodiversity Celebration Week team, including sessions such as “an introduction to neurodiversity” and “neurodiversity isn’t a mental health problem”. You too can sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dueumvab #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #Neurodiversityatwork
