Still one day left to register, do so now!
I will be pleased to chair the session on “Power, (im)mobility and accessibility: politicizing transport”.
We will focus on three topics:
- What are the main challenges of accessibility?
- How do questions of scale (national, regional, local) affect the interactions between accessibility, mobility, and regional/urban planning?
- In what ways do current planning and policy-making processes include the needs voiced by citizens?
Keen to be part of TOD-IS-RUR Network!

* Research alert * .....and Ola from Spain!
... where #COEMinerals researcher, materials engineer Regina Medeiros is attending the 13th International Colloids Conference (#COLL2024).
We are delighted to share Regina's new research paper: "Selective aggregation of fine copper minerals using charged polyacrylamides", open access, in Elsevier Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects: https://lnkd.in/gjn_3ukB
Congratulations to all authors, including Dr Casey Thomas and Prof. George Franks
Research explainer:
#Copper minerals are essential for securing the future supply of renewable energy and cleaner technologies, with previous studies showing an increasing crescent copper demand of up to 350% by 2050.
The proposed flocculation approach has the potential of improving the collection of the fine copper particles normally lost in industrial separation processes, which can count for up to 20% of total copper in the ore. Additionally, it offers an alternative to #reprocessing existing mineral waste, reducing the need for additional extraction, and potentially saving water and energy use in mineral beneficiation (separation).
The research investigates how these polymers interact with the mineral surfaces, their adsorption mechanisms and flocculation capabilities, including in-situ measurement of the size and structure of the aggregates. The research shows important advances about what types of commercially inexpensive reagents can be used for flocculation, and how they can be applied to improve the recovery of valuable copper fine particles. This work should be of interest to readers in the areas of particle aggregation, polymer adsorption, in-situ particle image characterisation, and mineral processing.

Still time to book your tickets for Saturday!
Each year some of the top SpLD specialists in their given profession come together for our Annual Conference. Held on Saturday 20th April 2024, this year's keynote is from Professor Charles Perfetti - Progress in Reading Science and its Uneven Impact on Practice
As a run-up to the conference day we are making all six seminars available to all delegates THREE weeks in advance, so you have the opportunity to watch them all before the day and submit questions to be put to the speakers in LIVE Q&A sessions in the afternoon of the conference. The seminars will not be shown live at the conference, but our speakers will be present at the event on the 20th for live Question Time panel sessions with delegates.
The keynote address will be presented on 20th April with a LIVE Q&A session with Professor Perfetti following.
Recordings from the day, along with all the seminar recordings, will be available on the conference page for THREE weeks after the conference. Delegates will be given access to the conference page by the admin team via a special link three weeks before, or when they book the conference.
Using the conference platform, you will also be able to network with other delegates, interact with sponsors and exhibitors and meet virtually with other attendees whose interests match yours with our improved networking service.
