May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. How are you celebrating our AAPI neighbors, family members, colleagues and community members this month (and all year)? Three recommendations: 1. Check out the work of the The Asian Community Fund at the Boston Foundation and follow my colleague, Danielle Kim. 2. Read the current issue of Boston Spirit Magazine and specifically the article on community funds in support of the LGBTQ+ community, including a new fund launched in the Merrimack Value thanks to Julie Chen & Susu Wong. 3. Finally, read this piece that came out last year that centers LGBTQ+ mental health and the AAPI experience.

For the LGBTQ+ community, social determinants of health play a major role in health outcomes. 1.5 million people a year experience homelessness, and for members of the LGBTQ+ community, the statistics are much worse. A year ago we started our series called "Connecting Conversations." Our goal is to bring together great minds from different sectors, all trying to tackle the same problem. So, in this first one, we brought together leaders from the nonprofit, academic, and start-up sectors who are experts in Culturally Competent Care for LGBTQ+ Communities. 🌈 Happy Pride Month!! 🌈 PRIDE Month is one of my favourite times of the year. As someone that has gone through a coming out journey and having learned to really embrace who I am: this time of the year is a celebration of love, kindness and self-acceptance. However, it's really important to highlight that everyone's coming out journey is significantly different. The LGBTQ2S+ community continues to face high rates of bullying, violence and youth homelessness. 💡 For members of the community, take the month to celebrate who you are and the strength that comes from it. Know that community and support can come in many forms. You are never truly alone ❤️ 💡 For allies of the community, allyship can come in many forms: choosing to educate yourself on LGBTQ+ history, supporting local entrepreneurs and supporting small businesses, attending your company's employee resource group events, providing mentorship opportunities, and more. Make an active choice! #pridemonth

How can we ensure that adult social care policies reflect the diversity in our society and are inclusive and equitable, particularly for groups such as those with disabilities, ethnic minorities and the LGBTQ+ community? As we strive to improve our adult social care system, it's vital that we consider the unique needs of all individuals.
