"I hope to make the patient feel at peace and comfortable, respecting their values and their last wishes. It’s very important to personalise care, because everybody is different. For example, we might have a patient who loves to be in the garden, so we may move their bed outdoors so they can enjoy being in nature for a while." - Nurse Edwina

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ON FOSTERING GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS AMONG PATIENTS AS A NURSE. Here are some tips: 1. I listened attentively to my patients without interrupting. 2. I was very intentional about showing understanding and compassion towards their concerns and feelings. 3. I also made sure to communicate clearly by using simple languages and ensured they understood instructions. 4. I ensured that I was attentive to their body languages and maintained good eye contact. 5. I respected their privacy. 6. I also made patients comfortable enough to express their thoughts, fears, and questions openly. 7. I encouraged feedback to improve communication and straighten any misunderstandings. 8. I did some follow up on the discussions we had and ensured patients felt supported throughout their care journey. Communicating rightly with patients is as important as the care rendered to them because it would aid better in their recovery and help you as a nurse gain knowledge of how best to help them. #homecarenurse #personalexperience #passionatenursewithexperience

I absolutely love spending time with others to understand their day to day processes. This week a nurse shared with me that I am the only one who understands her day to day challenges and barriers as she pours her whole self into her role. She felt seen, heard and understood. This is what matters! How can we make changes without first understanding? Who else loves to create detailed process maps? #TransformationalCoach #ProcessMappingToServe #feelingheard #LeaveAPositiveImpact

🌟 A Lesson from a Patient🌟 I remember one day on the ward, I met a patient who taught me something valuable. Let's call him Mr. A. He was a bit grumpy at first, which isn't unusual in a hospital setting. I tried to lighten up his mood but it proved difficult. But instead of sticking strictly to the script of professionalism, I decided to try something different. I smiled and asked him about his day, cracked up a little joke to lighten the mood. To my surprise, Mr. A's face softened, and he started to open up. We talked about other things and shared a laugh about something silly. It was a small moment, but it felt like we were just two people having a genuine conversation, not just nurse and patient. That experience made me realize that while professionalism is important, there's also room for kindness and a friendly approach. It doesn't mean crossing boundaries or being too personal; it's about showing that you care and that you're human too. Since then, I've made it a point to bring a little warmth to my interactions with patients. It’s amazing how a simple smile or a few kind words can make a hospital stay a little less intimidating. So I'm curious nurses, What moments or experiences have taught you valuable lessons in nursing? How do you balance professionalism with being approachable? Let's share and learn from each other! #NursingStories #PatientCare #HumanTouch #NursingCommunity
