Cynthia Cosme Cravo, 47, is a valued member of our Positive Living Community and a strong patient advocate who shared her lived experience and learnings with us. "We should demystify cancer and finish with the cancer patient stereotype. Don’t pretend cancer is not out there, not talking about it or not getting informed about it, does not avoid it, It just makes it more unknown and fearful. Treat your body well and have health screening regularly. I really value simple things in my everyday life and I’m in a hurry because I want to do many things, many projects. If my life is shorter than I expected, I don’t want to waste time crying or lamenting, I want to live! Celebrate life, love family and friends and as a good Brazilian, party! For sure I fear that my body doesn’t respond positively to the medication anymore, but I don’t let this fear stop me from enjoying the good things of my life. When sadness hits, I look back and see many things I have done since my diagnosis then. I am living my best life! I’m feeling stronger both emotionally and physically. There’s always a voice in the back of my mind reminding me that things can change but I have learned to ignore it and focus on the present." When I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I 100% felt like I had failed. I had tried to do all the right things, yet there I was, facing this life-threatening news. Stephen Levine’s book profoundly impacted me, introducing me to different ways of viewing illness. His meditations guided me gently into the shadows of my mind, away from the concepts of winning or losing, succeeding or failing. These meditations weren’t about letting go but about letting everything be and being present with it all. This practice created space around my thoughts and feelings, like the difference between holding my breath and taking deep, calming breaths. The meditations felt like a soothing exhale for my mind. Physically, I would notice my jaw unclenching, my shoulders relaxing, and my belly softening. Mentally, I sensed the grip around fearful or doubtful thoughts loosening, making room for something else—something as simple as noticing the play of light on a vermillion teapot, hearing the gentle rustle of leaves in the early morning breeze, or feeling the warmth of my golden retriever’s breath on my knee; hearing my mind gently whisper, all is well. Even today, I still work with this mindset. My habit of judging myself and my life as a success or failure is stubborn. But I’ve learned that healing is not about fitting into a mold of what it should look like. It’s about embracing my own way. There is no right or wrong way to heal; choose the path that feels true to you. #DoItYourWay #MaureenSpeaks #OvarianCancer #Cancer #Survivor #Wellness #Healing

I’m 3 months into my cancer treatment plan, have 12 months to go and will be turning 50 bald and boobless 🧑🦲 If I stopped to think about the mountain I have to climb I would never to get out of bed. Instead, I break everything down into smaller, more manageable chunks. 🏅🏆 From telling my family, every oncologist appointment, routine blood tests and PICC line cleanings to the nerve wracking scans, each task gets a massive tick off my list. ✅ Tomorrows tick is huge! 🚀 I'll be half way through chemo and I'm introducing a new drug into the mix – it's like a small victory in itself. 💪 I've still got a long way to go in the whirlwind of uncertainty. But Instead of worrying about what's still ahead, I'm choosing to focus on these little triumphs along the way. 💨 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. We may not always see it, but it is there, And one thing I know for certain- we always find it - eventually. 💚 - - - - - - - If you are struggling today, for whatever reason, your feelings are valid. Please don't hide in shame. 🙏 Please reach out to supports available, I've used most of them many times, they have saved my life more than once, 💚 #CancerAwareness #MentalHealth #MentalHealthFirstAid #SuicidePrevention #Speaker

Milestone Moment: Annual Check-Ups and a Grateful Heart 💛 In 2014, life threw me some curveballs: two strokes that left me temporarily paralyzed and speechless, followed by a breast cancer diagnosis the next year. My journey through these challenges has been a testament to resilience and healing. Three years later, a TIA—suspected to be triggered by Tamoxifen—reminded me of life’s unpredictability, but once again, I pulled through. Yesterday, my neurologist told me something I didn’t expect: from now on, I only need to see him annually! 🎉 This shift from semi-annual to annual check-ups may seem small, but it speaks volumes about my journey back to health. ✨ And as if to sweeten the moment, I received two compliments about my outfit from the nurse and another patient. 😊 This milestone reminds me of the power of persistence, gratitude, and the small ways we can celebrate our victories. Here’s to all of you, facing and overcoming your own obstacles—may each step forward be a reminder of your strength. 💪 #Resilience #ThriveThroughChallenges #LifeAfterCancer #StrokeRecovery #AnnualCheckup #HighPerformingSurvivors #NeverGiveUp #CelebrateYourJourney #MindsetShift #LIFTafterBreastCancer

The Paradox of Cancer Treatments: Finding Life in the Struggle Cancer treatments are undoubtedly tough. They take a toll on your body, your mind, and your spirit. The physical exhaustion, the emotional rollercoaster, and the constant uncertainty can feel overwhelming. Yet, somehow, in the midst of this battle, life becomes more vivid. Every moment becomes more precious, and the small things, once taken for granted, suddenly carry immense beauty. It’s in these trying times that many discover an unexpected love for life. Facing mortality makes you appreciate life’s fragility, and you begin to savor the present like never before. You find joy in the simplest things— a sunny day, a smile from a loved one, or even the quiet moments of reflection. Most importantly, undergoing such a journey can lead to falling in love with yourself. As your body fights, you learn to appreciate its resilience. As your mind battles fear, you grow stronger mentally. You learn self-compassion, recognizing that every scar, every struggle, and every step forward is part of your transformation. It’s a painful yet powerful reminder that even in the darkest times, there is light— and that light is often found within. Live in the now, love yourself fiercely, and find joy in every breath. #CancerJourney #StrengthInStruggle #SelfLove #LiveInTheMoment #FindingJoy #SurvivorSpirit #LoveYourself #Resilience

Our independence was won when we, the society, came together collectively. So, this Independence Day, let us all collectively take a step forward to living healthier. So here are a few simple practices we can all follow- 1. Make sure to exercise daily; take a walk instead of your vehicle if the distance is close by. 2. When you feel sick, stay inside and maintain a safe distance if you must go out. 3. Make sure to have regular screenings and tests done as with age, health complications can arise. 4. Never self-medicate or try to diagnose yourself by believing the internet or your friends and family. So, wishing everyone a happy, hale, and safe Independence Day. Let us fight off diseases and keep ourselves healthy and fit! #independenceday #August15 #freedom #78years #cancersucks #cancer #cancerawareness #cancersecrets #doctor #cancerhelp #medicalinsights #oncologist #surgicaloncologist #oncology
