Until we can change these pathetic laws that are crafting crimes of parental alienation and pushing trauma on children just to keep causing more adverse childhood experiences ( ACEs) .. We need to keep putting spotlight and forever make sure we shed light on these horrific situations happening that are no good, and educate the public more about this family law and family court system. We all need to work harder with legislators, attorneys and judges who are ethical, and work with those who truly do want to be the change to heal families and children. Put some pressure on these lawyers who should and can hold their peers accountable. Those who are really willing to be brave to step up and heal families going through divorce.. We need you!!! It’s time to start healing families— reduce all this trauma inflicted on children and their parents going through divorce! https://lnkd.in/eDQBS7k7

I want to thank Deidra Garyk for sharing this about my project Lipstick on the Mirror. It's taken me almost 40 years to have the courage to tackle this, because it forces me to confront the most awful experience of my life (losing my Mom to suicide) and the terrifying darkness I faced during some chapters of my life. Losing two of my best friends and mentors, and a cousin a few years ago, hurt like hell; but it wasn't until recently when one of my own kids experienced depression and suicidal ideation that I decided I MUST act. Despite all this, I am incredibly excited about what I am learning through my research, inspired by the people I have met (and who have agreed to be in the documentary), and confident that it will help remove the stigma around mental health and prevent tragic suicides. I want to thank the Centre for Suicide Prevention, Stigma Free Mental Health, Thumbs Up Foundation, Fordham Graduate School of Social Service, TsuuT'ina Nation Health & Wellness Centre, Thompson Rivers University, Foothills Integrative Psychology & Neurotherapy and Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences for your willingness to provide expert guidance and support this project. I am asking YOU for your help so I can continue to move this project forward (I continue to research the most cutting-edge science, identify global experts, people who have been mauled by depression or lost a loved one to suicide, write an Outline, finalize a production budget, write grant and funding applications and seek corporate sponsors). Here's how YOU can help: -share this project with your network (like Deidra did below) -make a contribution through GoFundMe (https://lnkd.in/gWhAqEnd) -introduce me to experts or individuals you know who could be included in the documentary -if you're struggling, reach out to me, family or friends, or the organizations I listed above and below -look around your home, circle of friends and colleagues to look for the following WARNING SIGNS: Children and Teenagers: talking, writing or drawing about death, or "wanting to disappear". Behavioural changes include loss of appetite and sleeping more than usual. Adults: a sudden cheerfulness and contentment, sudden preoccupation with death or a desire to give away possessions. RESOURCES Canada Crisis Hotline 988 Talk Suicide Canada 833-456-4566, or text 45645 (4pm to midnight EDT) Kids Help Phone 800-668-6868
Andrew Best has set a goal to destigmatize depression to prevent people from isolating, spiraling, and then committing suicide. He shares his own story in the trailer to a new documentary he is working on. It's a powerful 90 seconds. We know a lot of our friends and colleagues in the patch suffered greatly during the seven-year downturn. Some are still struggling, unsure what to do next. I hope this trailer is a reminder that we live in a community and we have a responsibility to support each other, through good times and bad. 🤫 Secret Wills? More Like Family Feuds! Estate Planning Gone Wrong 💣 Forget the dramatic will readings you see on TV. In reality, keeping your will a secret is a recipe for disaster, often leading to more drama than a soap opera. The Straits Times article, "Keep wills secret? It can cause ‘drama’ in the family," pulls back the curtain on the messy reality of poorly planned estates. Let's dissect the key takeaways and explore why open communication is paramount. Case 1: The Hardship Will 💔 Imagine inheriting a valuable property, but being legally prohibited from selling it for three years, even while facing mounting debt. This is precisely the nightmare one brother faced due to his sister's ill-conceived will. She intended to create a trust fund after the three-year period, but the impractical restriction, coupled with the accumulating interest on her debt, threatened to decimate the estate. This case vividly illustrates how seemingly well-intentioned but impractical stipulations, made without prior discussion, can cripple beneficiaries and undermine the testator's wishes. Case 2: The Known Will, Still a Mess 🤷♀️ Transparency isn't a magic bullet. Even when family members are aware of the will's contents, disputes can still erupt. One sibling challenged their parents' will despite knowing its provisions, claiming a greater share of two properties. While the case was dismissed due to lack of supporting evidence, it underscores the importance of not just disclosing the will, but also explaining the rationale behind its distribution. Open communication can address concerns, manage expectations, and potentially mitigate future conflict. Case 3: No Will, Big Problem 🤯 Dying without a will is like leaving a ticking time bomb for your family. When a father passed away intestate, his 2 shophouses were equally divided among his 4 children. This seemingly equitable solution quickly devolved into a deadlock, with two factions unable to agree on the properties' management. The court ultimately ordered the sale of the properties, a less than ideal outcome that could have been avoided with a properly drafted will. This case highlights the crucial role of a will in outlining clear directives for asset distribution and preventing costly legal battles. My Take ✍️: This article isn't just about legal cases; it's about the importance of family communication and responsible planning. Openly discussing your wishes with your loved ones can prevent misunderstandings, manage expectations, and minimize the potential for future conflict. Transparency builds trust and fosters a sense of shared understanding. A well-drafted will, tailored to your specific circumstances, is an investment in your family's future well-being. The bottom line? Don't let your legacy be a legal nightmare. Plan wisely, communicate openly, and seek expert advice. Your family will thank you for it. 🙏 #estateplanning #wills #inheritance #family

An increasing number of American couples are forming families with children from previous relationships. While relationships may function smoothly, challenges often arise when it comes to estate planning. Traditionally, in the event of a parent's death in a marriage with children, assets pass to the surviving spouse and then to their biological children. However, this approach can be problematic for blended families, as the surviving spouse is under no legal obligation to include stepchildren in the inheritance. This situation can lead to stepchildren being disinherited while stepsiblings inherit everything, resulting in tense family dynamics, bitter disputes, and severed relationships. Without legal intervention, communication breaks down, legal costs escalate, and the emotional damage can be permanent. https://lnkd.in/dqTD_Tau
