There are multiple reasons why people take a leave of absence (LoA). Guiomar Hernández, Adriana Navarro-Suárez, Ph.D. and I are interested on how a LoA affect career development in the electrochemical energy storage (EES) field (e.g. #batteries, #supercaps) and would love to get your input. If you: are working or have worked in EES, regardless of the department/position/topic (i.e. Inputs from members of HR, R&D, or the legal department in a EES company are equally important to us). AND Have taken a LoA of over 3 months Then please fill out this survey (it will take around 10-15 minutes): https://lnkd.in/dmuEVk87 This survey will be available between 08.03.2024 and 10.06.2024. Co-Founder at Inventure | I help Renewable Energy companies accomplish their goals through timely and expert talent acquisition, using the most powerful tech stack, and the best trained recruitment team in the industry.
The graph below represents the lion's share of job openings in Renewable Energy this year: - Candidate salary expectations have risen on average 34% in the last 12 months (massive increase in demand for labor, moderate increase in workforce size) - Companies have ignored the compensation data and have kept salary bandings the same since 2023/22 (argument around internal equity etc) The result? Massive increases in time to hire, hard costs, and project delays We have found that companies living in the 'valley of death' (the red box) will find it almost impossible to hire... if a vacancy is open for 50+ days, it is unlikely to be filled at all - unless the firm dramatically shifts their criteria (years of experience, project exposure etc). So what can you do as an employer or HR professional in charge of salary? Firstly, calculate the opportunity cost ($ + time) of finding that unicorn candidate (low salary, strong technical skills) then, make an informed decision to either increase your team's salary benchmarking and the resultant job offer in question (goodbye 'internal equity' argument) or...set expectations internally that the role will be open for a very long time, and as a result, the firm should expect an increase in hard costs, an increase in project delays, and generally less business growth in that specific function for the quarter (while the vacancy remains open) #renewableenergy #solar #wind #recruitment #talent #talentacquisition

Get Rich or Die Trying - Or a look at the 2022 and 2023 Power & Energy Salary Survey trends https://lnkd.in/gVZvE-5X
Get rich or die trying. OR A comparison between the IEEE Power & Energy Salary Report for 2022 and 2023 (https://lnkd.in/gfT-2QYz) I thought this would be kind of interesting because anyone working in the power and energy industry would be well aware of the fact that there are far more projects than people to do them. Naturally, this would lead to wages increasing as companies compete for workers. Here are some interesting trends from the 2022 to 2023 data. I am not going to give actual dollar values because I encourage people to buy the report from IEEE (https://lnkd.in/gfT-2QYz). It is less than 30 dollars and IEEE needs money for the many services that it provides. Everything is generally trended upward in wages except for engineers with less than 4 years of experience. There is often limited demand for fresh grads due to how much training and time is requiered for them to be productive. There is a sharp increase after 4 years, likely due to people getting a wage bump after getting licensed and often switching jobs at the same time. More demand was for experienced engineers in general, which is to be expected in an industry that is trying to do stuff right now, not in 5 years when your fresh grads become productive. One of the very interesting things from the report is that region demand went up (the diagram in the video is 2023 compensation divided by 2022 compensation. It was clear) as expected but metro demand fluctuated tremendously from metro to metro. What likely ended up happening is that the utilities and consulting companies completely stripped the talent pool bare and were then competing more harshly for available talent. In competitive regions, average compensation increased by near 10% with some like Charlotte, Dallas, Raleigh, and San Jose seeing increases above 20%. The future is so bright in the power industry that you have to wear 100 cal/cm2 PPE. Shades won't do it anymore. If you’re looking to start a new career, there’s good news: there are countless occupations that are expected to rapidly expand over the next decade—and many come with six-figure salaries. Fortune Recommends found that wind turbine service technicians, solar photovoltaic installers, nurse practitioners, data scientists, and information security analysts are expected to be the fastest growing occupations over the next decade, according to BLS data released last month. All five of these roles are expected to grow at least by 33%—which is significantly higher than the average for all jobs, 4%. Moreover, they also all pay median salaries higher than the average for all occupations, which sits at $48,000. #jobs #employment #datajournalism

The energy workforce added nearly 300,000 jobs in 2022, increasing to more than 8.1 million total jobs at the end of the year, according to the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) 2023 U.S. Energy and Employment Report (USEER). While the 2024 USEER won’t be released until later this summer, it is likely to show hundreds of thousands more jobs added to the energy workforce in 2023, continuing a trend of above-average growth that’s been going on for years. https://lnkd.in/eE6BnJ8H #doe #energyworkforce #employmentreport

You do not have to be an expert to add value Early in my career I had the limiting belief that you had to be an expert at something before you could add value. As time passed, I learned the importance of showing up with the intention of contributing even if I were not sure how I would do that. I found that I was not alone and realized that most of us feel that way from time to time, but we can’t let it stop us from putting ourselves out there. I remember the day I received a call with an invitation to become a board member of the Federal “PAC” (Political Action Committee) for the company I worked for in the Energy industry. I recall thinking this person called the wrong number and responded – “…this is Jen in HR did you mean to call me?” I was surprised to learn that – yes, they wanted my perspective, my voice and participation. Although I felt wildly out of place, I was intrigued and accepted the invitation. I served on the board for about three years. I also became an active member of the Employee Political Action Network “EPAN.” While I am still not a political expert, I am grateful for the experience. I also met many incredibly talented people that I was able to learn from and get to know better. I found the work to be fascinating and enjoyed visits to the capitol to meet and discuss energy related bills with our legislators such as the “Move over” law (to include utility vehicle and highway maintenance vehicles) and policies related to energy efficiency and renewable energy. I continue to branch out into new areas and life just keeps getting more interesting! What have you said “yes” to lately? #careeradvice #getinvolved #jobtips #professionaldevelopment

How is our education system preparing the next generation of workers? As we look ahead to the next decade, the U.S. job market is projected to expand by 6.7 million jobs, according to insights from Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA). However, this growth prompts a critical question: Are our educational institutions adequately preparing graduates for the careers of tomorrow? The demand for specialized roles is set to surge, with Wind Turbine Technicians and Solar Photovoltaic Installers leading the way in terms of growth. Additionally, our aging population will drive an ever-increasing need for healthcare professionals. This shift in job demand underscores a pivotal challenge: Is our education system aligned with these emerging needs? Are we effectively guiding the next generation toward the industries that will shape the future? As leaders in staffing and recruitment, it’s crucial to consider how we can contribute to bridging this gap and ensure a well-prepared workforce for the opportunities that lie ahead. #SIA #indemandjobs #jobmarket #educationalalignment #GTT Global Technical Talent, an Inc. 5000 Company Vishnu Doraiswamy Dan Plawiuk Ryan Angelow Joseph M.
