During World War II, the US military had to train hundreds of thousands of civilians, and that's when some interesting and effective training methods were born. One of the most fascinating ways was the use of oversized fake weapons to help soldiers understand the parts and mechanics of a weapon better. The BAR Double Size "Device-3-F-3" was one of the very first training aids, which was created in collaboration with the Army and the Naval Research Special Devices Center in 1943. This oversized, non-firing, sectionalized training model of the M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle proved to be an effective hands-on training educational tool. #military #defense #defence #engineering #technology #militarytechnology #defensetechnology #defenseinnovation #defenseindustry

Read the latest publication from our partners at #CANSOF, linked in the SOF-Related Publications section of our homepage: Jsou.edu/press. Force Multiplier: Utilization of SOF from a Small State Perspective edited by Bernd Horn and Hans Ilis-Alm “The military has always been a key instrument of national power. Its strategic utility for defending the nation and furthering the national interest using direct military force or by assisting friends, allies, coalitions and/or international organizations has earned it a voice in national security policy formulation and implementation. The three traditional [Canadian] services, the Navy, Army and Air Force, have for a long time been recognized as key players in this strategic context. Special Operations Forces, however, do not share this long history.” #SOF

🟢 | EXPERT ANALYSIS: Our #ConstitutionalReformsGuide features new content: “Mexico: Public Security Under Military Control” by Daniel Torres Checa! “The National Guard was constitutionally designed as a civilian entity, under civilian control, but that vision rapidly decayed. The institutions’ hierarchical structure gradually incorporated military rules, and their integration increasingly relied on military elements. Their formation embraced the armed forces’ education, training, professionalization, and promotion system. As if that were not enough, studies show that 8 out of 10 elements in the National Guard have a military background. With military elements and training, the National Guard has been widely regarded as a military institution cloaked in civilian guise.” 🇲🇽 👉 https://lnkd.in/eNG3dH_s #ConstitutionalReforms #NationalGuard #SecurityPolicy #ArmedForces

Today is national learn your name in morse code day - and we just had to give it a try! During WWII, Morse Code was used between warships and naval bases, because radio frequency was limited and easily identifiable by military enemies. Whilst technology has since evolved, the U.S. military still trains a number of its recruits on this old communication system, as it may prove useful should all other communication systems fail in a time of need. Try yourself! #morsecode
