In the vibrant world of the reef, even the smallest fish show us the power of unity. Grazers, often chased away by territorial damselfish, know that strength lies in numbers. By teaming up and forming schools, they not only gain safety from predators but also overcome territorial challenges through sheer cooperation. This remarkable behavior, known as group feeding, allows them to thrive in an environment where survival requires collaboration. Other grazers are drawn to this collective strength, joining the school to enjoy protection and share in the opportunity to feed, even in areas dominated by aggressive fish. To stay safe, they adapt—blending into the group by mimicking the colors, patterns, and movements of the schooling fish.
