In the rapidly evolving maritime industry, the question of whether new age training should replace conventional training or build upon it is crucial. This presentation explores the role of conventional training in the new age, the troubleshooting capabilities of new age training, and the human element in new age training. We will examine how these approaches can be integrated to create a comprehensive and effective training program for maritime seafarers. #MaritimeTraining #SeafarerSkills #ConventionalApproach #NewAgeApproach #FutureofSeafaring

Serious concerns loom over the maritime education system due to long-standing deficiencies dating back to 2006. The failure to meet equipment standards and provide adequate onboard training has led to potential delisting by European ship owners. Major challenges include deploying cadets for the required 12-month practical training. EMSA findings reveal a defective curriculum, jeopardizing learning outcomes and competencies. Urgent reforms are needed to ensure the quality and competence of our maritime graduates. Learn more https://lnkd.in/gimy7gbh #MaritimeEducation #QualityChallenges #UrgentReforms #Philippines

Nakul Malhotra rightly says how crucial relevant training for the future (and present) workforce is, couldn’t agree more! Glad to see that tools and subjects are rapidly developing mirroring these needs. Important to say that this must be a participation event for the stakeholders and there must also be realisation that this will come with a cost which is an investment in safety and the future. Hence it is equally important to develop true incentive systems to retain good people and not have them work in a highly commoditiced environment. My training partner: Ocean Technologies Group

Here's a blast from the past - my 1995 Asst Engineers Record Book from 1995 my first ship - Eagle Orion back when AET was an NOL company. This was issued by the National Maritime Board Singapore approved by the Marine Department - precursors of the current Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). As I look at it with fond memories now I remember the challenges around the exercises, but am deeply grateful as the training I received has stayed with me over the years. As we now think about reviewing the International Maritime Organization STCW convention and what mandatory training of the future for seafarers should entail, this book is a great reminder of how crucial relevant training for the future Maritime workforce is. We are in an industry that is undergoing massive transformation, and our underlying education and training systems must reflect this.

This is my third article in a series on developments in the #naval and #commercialmaritime #training community. Forming an outline for a fourth article. Reach out to me at <marty.kauchak@halldale.com> with your thoughts and suggestions on the next step. Marty Kauchak, editor and author
Read Marty Kauchak's latest instalment in a series of short articles on the blurring of simulation and training (S&T) lines between the naval and commercial maritime communities. One point of intersection is the disparate communities’ common embrace of technologies to allow individuals to learn and rehearse skills more efficiently and effectively in terms of safety, course completion time and other metrics.
