Number of Subscribers is a vanity metrics now on YouTube I have been creating and managing content for brands on YouTube from past 8 years and things have changed significantly on how brands use social media. The social media game has changed from being a social based graph to an interest based graph. Earlier you would see content based on who you follow and who follows you vs now it is more on what your interests are and content is shown to you as per your interest based on your digital footprints. The most important metrics right now is the engagement rate and this signifies how strong of a community you have. The more engagement rate increases, the more it signals about how well the community is engaging and growing with the content. So, next time in your tracking sheet, ensure that you are tracking engagement rate too and not just subscribers! The Starting Seven In my last post I talked about the importance of consistently producing content. The marketing department of the past is dead. Today’s businesses need to reimagine their teams to reflect the new reality of content-driven marketing. Here’s a breakdown of what a modern marketing department should look like: 1- Head of Marketing – The visionary who drives overall strategy. 2- Head of Advertising – Responsible for all paid media, digital and traditional. 3- Head of Brand Strategy – Oversees the consistency and direction of brand messaging. 4- Content Producer – Manages content creation and works with videographers, filmmakers, and editors. 5- Videographers – Visual content is king. Videographers who can shoot and edit are critical. 6- Social Media Manager – Handles the distribution of content across all platforms. 7- Ad & Metrics Analyst – The data expert who measures what works and what doesn’t. This is just the bare minimum. Companies that are serious about growth need to invest in the right people and build a team that can scale with their ambitions.
