For international students studying psychology and those wanting to pursue psychology in the UK,
I know that becoming a psychologist can be a challenging, daunting, and confusing journey. International students face additional hurdles, such as high costs, visa issues, and limited opportunities. This can sometimes feel overwhelming and isolating, especially since there isn’t always much discussion about these specific factors.
I have struggled to find my place as a professional within the healthcare system. Additionally, integrating into a new environment has been tough.
But it has been worth it.
After receiving an offer from King's DClinPsy and Roehampton's DCoP, I will start my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton in a few weeks. Although this comes with its own set of financial and systemic challenges, it is mostly accompanied by excitement and a sense of achievement.
I want to create a space where international students can:
- Gain clarity and start making progress toward their goals, even if it feels a bit confusing
- Ask any questions about jobs, courses, or visas
- Connect with others who are in the same boat
For now, I have put together some information with FAQs that may be helpful for you. If you have any specific questions please contact me via Linkedin or send me an email. I will continue to add resources to the website in the hope that it may even support one international student.
Please do share this with your network if you know it can help someone!
