Creative courses teach students to think outside the box, solve problems in unique ways, and express their individuality. Exploring the Impact of Group Work in Integrated Assessments on Student Engagement and Collaboration in Fashion. I recently had the privilege of presenting at the HELTASA conference on a study that delves into the collaborative nature of Fashion Styling education. My research focuses on the impact of group work in integrated assessments on student engagement and collaboration within a Fashion Styling program. By encouraging collaboration across disciplines, the program fosters creativity and equips students with essential teamwork skills. The study explores how factors such as engagement levels, collaboration methods, faculty support, and industry interaction influence students' learning experiences. I am excited to share an insightful image from my earlier research paper, World’s Fashion and Creative Design Education and its Distinguished Characteristics: An Overview (Reddy, G. C., July 2015, Global Academic Network Conference Proceedings, Volume 2, 41-53, Sydney). As we approach NIFT's Admissions for 2025, it's important to recognize that fashion is about fostering creativity, deep learning, and a lifelong, self-directed attitude. This education empowers students to not only decide how but also what and why to do. The Blossoming Four Petals of World’s Fashion and Creative Design Education (WFCDE) capture this dynamic transformation, offering interdisciplinary programs that shape versatile and creative professionals. Thousands of students are converging on our campus at Appalachian State University. These are bright sunny days and my ethnographic tendencies led to an important observation. This representative sample of Gen Z does not wear sunglasses. What has happened? Research indicates that in 2024, the sunglass industry is worth over $23 billion. Might this eye protection and apparel accessory be trending down? I pulled together a quick impromptu focus group, with the hardworking resident assistants at the front counter of New River Hall. Two takeaways on the sunglass scenario: 1) Gen Z grew up somewhat void of the sport adventure lifestyle. They are indoors oriented. You don't need sunglasses to gaze at your smartphone. 2) Gen Z is brand conscious of how they are perceived. If they can't afford the $400 XYZ brand preferred sunglasses...they'd rather wear none at all. interesting but only exploratory. Might be fun to take this on as a class project in one of my research courses. Any sunglass brand marketers out there who would like to participate?

This week marks the end of another accomplished implementation of my custom-designed curriculum for the University of the Arts London's UAL Short Courses Ltd titled "How to Start Your Own Fashion Business". Drawing inspiration from my entrepreneurial experiences and relevant case studies, this course now incorporates trend signals and drivers of change to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of not only starting a fashion business, but also the wider creative industry's inherent inequalities. Despite my initial disillusionment with the fashion industry due to its environmental and social impacts, I have honed my teaching approach by integrating techniques from Design Management. Through an iterative design process, I continuously seek feedback from students to enhance the course delivery. Interestingly, many students realize during the course that their business ideas may not align with their values, prompting them to reconsider their career paths. Whether they choose to pursue sustainable and ethical practices or exit the fashion industry altogether, the course encourages critical reflection and introspection. As evidenced by the reluctance of the last cohort to leave on the final evening, the course leaves a lasting impact on students, sparking introspection and thoughtful consideration of their future endeavours. 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭.. Assalam o Alaikum Everyone, I recently came across a fashion show by Iqra University’s AIFD that has been circulating on social media, featuring models in highly inappropriate and revealing outfits. As a fashion and textile design teacher, I feel deeply ashamed and disheartened to see how misguided our students are becoming under such teachings. Iqra University is promoting a culture that goes against our traditional values by teaching students to design inappropriate and overly revealing clothing. Unfortunately, this has led students to completely forget and disregard Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. Throughout my career, I have strived to promote Pakistan’s culture and traditions through fashion, but witnessing this has been a painful reminder of how far some institutions have strayed from our values. Such practices not only harm our cultural identity but also fail to uphold the ethical responsibilities of educational institutions. I strongly oppose this approach. Such practices are damaging to both the minds and studies of students. Instead, institutions like Iqra University have the potential to create a significant positive impact by focusing on preserving and celebrating Pakistan’s cultural identity through fashion. I urge designers and students in Pakistan’s fashion industry to recognize that our culture and traditions hold immense potential. By working on these rich and diverse aspects, you can excel without compromising on our values. Pakistan is an Islamic country, and it’s our responsibility to maintain the distinction between right and wrong. Instead of showcasing inappropriate designs on fashion runways, focus on promoting the countless beautiful cultures within Pakistan and bring them to the forefront. Also I urge the educational authorities to take immediate notice of these issues and work towards guiding our students and institutions on the right path. It is crucial to focus on nurturing creativity that aligns with our rich cultural heritage rather than promoting practices that erode it. At the very least, institutions should refrain from promoting such inappropriate fashion. Thank you for taking the time to reflect on this important matter. Together, we can ensure that Pakistan’s cultural and traditional identity is preserved and celebrated.
