We received the attached article titled “State attorneys general call for federal PBM reforms.” The article indicated that 39 state attorneys general sent a letter to House and Senate leaders on Feb. 20, “highlighting the need for federal action.” First of all, who are the attorneys general and from what states do they come from? Don’t their constituents face the same high Rx cost problems everyone else has? Second, does sending this letter really accomplish anything at all anyway? The article mentions 3 different bills. Things in Congress aren’t muddled enough - they need 3 different bills to address the problems that have arisen with the evolution and growth of the PBM syndrome, when they can’t even agree on one. The PBM trade group, the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association maintains that “PBM negotiated rebates are not linked to drug prices.” Seriously? Rebates from anywhere are the result from overpaying for something in the first place. Further, if the PBM’s keep the rebates, that means that the consumer has been overcharged an amount for drugs that is “kicked-back” to the PBM. Therefore, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that if you eliminate rebates, the basic cost goes down! Unfortunately, too many of our lawmakers on both the state level and federal level are buying into the PBM’s position previously stated. Could they be “buying into the PBM position” because the highly paid, highly funded PBM lobbyists and loyalists are buying them with campaign funding? Just wondering! In our view, a very effective method of neutralizing PBM’s is for local groups and local independent pharmacies to bypass PBM’s and work directly with each other. Let us show you how.
