On December 4th, our colleagues and their children gathered to enjoy kids play: The Happy Little House at the City Puppet Theatre in Rijeka. This rhyming monodrama, inspired by a true story, celebrates Croatia’s smallest library, founded in 1936 in Kuti (Gorski kotar). 🎭 The play emphasized the power of books, the joy of reading, and the importance of community and determination. After the play, Santa Claus surprised the kids with gifts, and a photographer was there to capture every precious moment, making it a night to remember. 🎁 This evening was a wonderful way to start the celebration of the holiday season and inspire younger generations. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen! 🎄 #HolidaySeason #Community #KidsPlay #TheHappyLittleHouse

The Lijadu Sisters' re-release project is a long-overdue attempt to right the wrongs of a music industry that exploited and silenced two pioneering artists. The fact that it took decades for them to regain control of their work and receive some compensation is a damning indictment of the systemic injustices that have perpetuated inequality in the music industry. The project's focus on reparation is a necessary step towards accountability, but it must also be accompanied by a commitment to transparency and structural change. Anything less would be a hollow gesture, perpetuating the same exploitative dynamics that have historically silenced marginalized voices. #LijaduSisters #Nigeria #Music #MusicIndustryReform #ReparationNow #FairnessInMusic #NoMoreExploitation https://lnkd.in/eYPFT_KP

The Jews, the Poles and All That Jazz... 1000 years of history of Polish Jews and Polish-Jewish relations were reduced to pogroms and Holocaust. It's wrong and it has to change. You may not like Poland 🇵🇱 or the Poles but seriously: What did those dead Polish/Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth Jews do to you to deny or diminish their contribution to Polish Kingdom, Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth or 2nd Polish Republic (1918-1939)? There's no need for Cold War 1.0 rhetoric (including but not limited to "Polish concentration camps", "Poles killed more Jews than German Nazis") anymore. There's no need to lie that nobody knew what was happening on Polish soil during Holocaust because those Polish anti-Semites didn't tell anyone. Archives of Polish WW2 government in exile in London proved otherwise. Not mentioning that some of those Polish anti-Semites who were desperately trying to stop Holocaust or reduce its scale (especially in connection with non-Polish European Jews) were actually Jewish. It doesn't mean that if we try to take a look at Polish-Jewish history from a different perspective we will join Holocaust deniers club or that we will do whitewashing of Poles who turned against their Jewish co-habitants in Russian Empire after 3rd partition of Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795 or against their Jewish co-citizens during German Nazi occupation of Poland. Oh yes I can hear Polish right wingers shouting "History didn't end during WW2 there were NKVD Jews" so let me say: We won't do whitewashing of Soviet policy "A Jew as the internal enemy" in Poland forced into communism and Russian sphere of influence in consequence of which some Jews turned against the Poles (and earlier against religious Polish Jews and Judaism that was supposed to be "Polish" or "pro-Polish"). In fact we may discover how tragic it was that it happened. And how both Poles and Jews were used in wars that were not ours and were fighted against us. First things first: Are you aware that assimilation of Jews on Polish soil wasn't acctually connected with uprooting from Judaism? And no it doesn't mean that there was a single moment in history when the Poles owned Judaism. It means that we had so-called "Poles of mosaic faith" (= Polish Jews who worshipped Judaism) and that they served in Polish army which means that they were fully assimilated and Polish patriots. How come? "Polin" in Yiddish = you can rest here (until Israel is re-established in the Middle East). So when you are a Western historian or a writer you have to have in mind that some Western benchmarks don't go along with history of Polish/Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth Jews too well. A Polish Jew could be both Judaism worshipper and fully assimilated. I don't know if it happened somewhere else but it did happen here. P.S.: Hundreds of years ago, Jews were traveling through forests and wilderness areas and suddenly a note fell from the sky or they heard the voice of God saying to them: "Polin"

In a Georgian village, a person has recently passed away, and the community is preparing for the funeral. The audio captures the heated debates and discussions surrounding the feast that will be prepared for the mourners. The film focuses on the performativity of funerals and the role of women in Georgian culture in orchestrating them, often in a grotesque manner. The importance of food is emphasized, particularly the abundance that must be presented at the funeral. I question the necessity of these performative rituals, which often overshadow the true purpose of mourning and celebrating the deceased’s life. Despite the solemnity of the occasion, I see death as a rebirth and question the need for excessive respect towards the body. As the community comes together to mourn and celebrate the life of the deceased, the video explores the cultural and societal expectations surrounding funerals and how they can obscure the true emotions and feelings of grief. --- Directing & Editing: Luka Gotsiridze Acting: Mariia Pankova, Aya Rebai Tivoli, New York. 2022.
