// Waterjet cutting underwater 🌊 At ANT we are constantly striving to develop ourselves and our technology. A current research project is looking at optimising the air injection at the nozzle to further increase the effectiveness and stability of the water jet at greater depths. Various tests have already been carried out using uniquely developed air nozzle geometries. The theoretical preliminary analyses were caried out together with Hochschule Wismar as part of a development project. In particular, the challenging and variable environmental conditions of the formation and the individual well-schematics of the so-called multi-string casing during the decommissioning of oil platforms have been taken into account. The results to date are very promising and preparations are underway to set sail to test and verify the theory in the field. #waterjet #cutting #technology #decommissioning #offshore #oilgas #oilandgas #sustainability #water

I am SO HAPPY! to see I'm not the only one with this view on Hydrogen. The "math's" are simply insurmountable under the currently prevailing group think. We need to investigate more realistic and practical alternatives as I pointed out in my most recent article (https://lnkd.in/gvwu948i). This presentation does a wonderful job of addressing the challenges. It's an hour-ish long, but well worth the time investment! https://lnkd.in/g2HTujns

📢 A small step that could make a big difference. The proposed rule from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has the potential to remove a large obstacle to inter-state carbon dioxide pipelines. Many regulators and lawmakers across multiple US states are waiting for the update to the CO2 Pipelines Safety Regulations from the federal agency. As soon as tighther federal standards are adopted, the prospects for project approvals at the state level are likely to improve. #unitedstates #regulations #safetystandards #carbondioxide #pipelines #federalgovernment

On September 26, 2022, the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline experienced a series of underwater explosions and consequent gas leaks. A week after this, one of our ocean #gliders was deployed close to the leak site, allowing our operations team to observe dissolved methane in the water. Our colleague Martin Mohrmann presented those observations this week at the 5th Baltic Earth Conference, which is taking place in Jūrmala near Rīga, Latvia. The glider #data is complemented with measurements taken by the Ship-of-opportunity program conducted by IOW (The Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research), this time on the ferry Finnmaid that travels between Travemünde and Helsinki every week and passes very close to the leak site. The two methane observation methods are used to model the spread into the nearby basins and marine protected areas. This is how ocean data collection helps us monitor and assess critical events. Are you interested in how #batteries can be (and are being) used on board ocean-going cargo ships? Then check out this paper from CIMAC and the Maritime Battery Forum!
CIMAC and the Maritime Battery Forum have published the first of three white papers on the environmental impact of batteries in deep-sea shipping. The paper offers a comprehensive examination of use cases and application areas within this field. The experts from CIMAC's Greenhouse Gas Strategy Group, Working Group 20 System Integration, Working Group 21 Propulsion, and the Maritime Battery Forum have consolidated their knowledge and existing literature with empirical data in a comprehensive paper exploring the existing use cases and potential applications of batteries on today's deep-sea vessels. Liquids HCA analysis models and quantifies impacts of a hazardous release from liquids pipelines to High Consequence Areas (HCAs). Depending on the pipeline location and product type being carried, the HCA analysis impact can be categorized into three major types: 1. Direct Impact – Pipeline that directly intersects and within an HCA area. 2. Indirect Impact / Aerial Dispersion Impact – pipeline that are within a specified buffer distance of an HCA area. The buffer distance would be the aerial or vapor dispersion buffer of High Volatile Liquid (HVL) products. 3. Potential Impact – Pipeline spill product from a rupture has potential to migrate into an HCA via terrestrial or hydrologic transport. Looking to learn more? 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭-𝐆𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐎𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡: 𝐀 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 🛢 Oil spills have been recorded as a serious environmental threat. Increased deep-sea oil production and exploration and oil transportation over the seas are the major reasons for oil spillage. Spilled oil must be removed from the water or the surface to protect the water and the environment. 🛢By leveraging and utilizing the next-generation marine oil spill clean-up technologies and improving spill detection techniques, companies and businesses can expand their horizon and help solve a huge problem. The Irish National Tide Gauge Network (INTGN) is managed by the Marine Research Infrastructures team and serviced by NVM Limited. The purpose is to monitor the water level and the tidal harmonic of the Ireland's coastline, and to provide tidal predictions that are free for public use. Currently, the INTGN consists of 25 + tide gauge monitoring nodes that measure real-time data for actual water level and tide predictions. The main sensor at each node is an OTT Contact Bubbler Sensor with a data logger. Some nodes also measure sea temperature and air pressure parameters. The data is transmitted via telemetry to provide real-time measurements every 5 minutes and is available to view and download at Tidal Observations. The tidal predictions and real time monitoring provide critical information for flood forecasting and for supporting research, coastal engineering, recreation, and navigation activities. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eeMVqixU NVM are the Irish Channel Partner for OTT instrumentation. #environmentalmonitoring

🌊 In case you missed it, Global Fishing Watch led a major study, published in the journal Nature, that brings hidden industrial activity at sea into view! 🛰️ By combining satellite technology with machine learning, we teamed up with research partners to map previously undisclosed industrial activity at sea. Among the major findings: 🔹 About 75% of the world’s industrial fishing vessels are hidden from public monitoring systems. 🔹 Satellite mapping revealed high densities of vessel activity in large areas of the ocean that previously showed little-to-no vessel activity by public tracking systems. 🔹 Offshore wind installations are growing exponentially and now outnumber oil platforms. 🌐 See what else we unearthed here: bit.ly/3HfB6aH
