Identifying and make better-informed deployment decisions IOTICS technology has helped Portsmouth International Port to make substantial strides towards achieving their ambitious decarbonisation and pollution reduction goals. Using #IOTICS technology, it is now possible for the Sustainability and Environmental Team at the Port to monitor and manage the environmental impact of the entire port ecosystem. They are able to understand and address concerns regarding waste management and water pollution, as well as monitor air quality and energy consumption empowering the port to identify and make better-informed deployment decisions regarding the greenest and most efficient energy sources to power the port and its users such as passenger and freight ferries. 🌊 Mission Ocean: A Pathway to Restoring Our Ocean and Waters by 2030 🌊 The EU's Mission Ocean initiative is a bold and necessary step toward addressing the critical need to restore the health of our oceans and waters by 2030. Through innovative research, citizen engagement, and blue investments, this initiative aims to protect marine ecosystems, improve biodiversity, and secure the sustainable use of marine resources. 🌍🌿 Central to this mission is the creation of the European Digital Twin Ocean (EU DTO), a powerful digital model that will allow for real-time monitoring, simulations, and predictions of oceanic and human interactions. By combining natural and socio-economic data, EU DTO will play a pivotal role in understanding and addressing the complexities of our marine environments. 💡 At SEADITO, we are proud to be part of this endeavor. SEADITO contributes to the mission by developing advanced social-ecological models that help integrate human activities with marine spatial planning. 🌊 The POSEIDON Project: Steering waterborne transport towards sustainability We are proud to announce that the POSEIDON project features prominently in CORDIS’s latest Synergy Info Pack, entitled “Waterborne Transport for a Green Future”. This publication highlights the collaborative efforts of 13 EU-funded projects, funded under Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, LIFE, CEF Transport, EMFF and the Innovation Fund,. These projects are overseen by the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environmental Executive Agency (CINEA), and show a united front in the pursuit of a more sustainable maritime sector. As a crucial part of the European economy - accounting for 77% of external trade and 35% of trade between EU Member States - shipping is of vital importance and is also responsible for 13.5% of transport-related greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. The POSEIDON project and the other similar projects are dedicated to reducing this environmental footprint while enhancing the efficiency and global competitiveness of the shipping industry. They will support the development of various solutions that contribute to a more environmentally friendly transport by water. 🌊 SEA Europe at the EESC Public Hearing on the European Oceans Pact 🌊 Last week, SEA Europe, through its Secretary General, had the pleasure of presenting the association's views on the forthcoming #EuropeanOceansPact during a public hearing hosted by the @European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The intervention focused on shaping a strategic and comprehensive approach to ocean governance. 🔹 Key Takeaways from SEA Europe’s Intervention: 🌍 Maritime Industry is Strategic – The shipbuilding and maritime equipment industry plays a crucial role in Europe’s trade, energy transition, defense, climate ambitions, and Blue Economy. Without vessels and maritime technologies, the Blue Economy simply cannot exist. 🚢 A Missing Dimension – The mission letter to Oceans Commissioner #Kadis for the #EuropeanOceansPact does not mention vessels, ships, or fleets. SEA Europe therefore urges to address this omission and calls for a stronger recognition of the shipbuilding industry’s role in sustainable ocean governance. ⚓ Sustainable Blue Economy – The Blue Economy consists of a wider range of sectors and activities, such as sustainable fishing, offshore renewables, dredging, marine research, or underwater infrastructure. They all depend on vessels, platforms and technologies.  🛠️ Industrial Alliance for Blue Economy Value Chains – SEA Europe calls for a dedicated "Industrial Alliance" to strengthen Europe’s maritime supply chains, innovation, and competitiveness, ensuring sustainable and digitalized ships across sectors. 🤝 Collaboration & Policy Alignment – The #EuropeanOceansPact should align with the Clean Industrial Deal and Industrial Maritime Strategy, ensuring a cohesive approach that benefits both sea and land-based industries.
