🌍 Happy Earth Day! 🌱 This year’s theme, ‘Planet vs. Plastics,’ provides an opportunity for organizations across the globe to consider the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and the importance of investing in technologies that can reduce the use of plastic and plastic waste. At Malvern Panalytical, this is a topic we feel very passionate about. Last week we shared clips from our Plastics and Polymers Future Days episode, featuring Taco V., Floor (Florine) Aalders, Esther van den Beuken and Andrea Mizzi Brunner, who discussed poignant issues in the industry and why there are good reasons to be optimistic about a circular future for plastic ♻️ In line with our commitment to sustainability, we're proud to share our net zero journey. Our dedication to reducing our environmental footprint has led to significant changes across various aspects of our operations. These milestones signify not only our progress but also our unwavering dedication to fostering a cleaner, healthier and more productive world. However, our journey doesn't end here. As we look ahead, we will continue to innovate, collaborate, and advocate for a healthier planet. Together, we can make a difference. Avoid using plastic bottles at events like weddings and other gatherings to help the environment. Plastic bottles contribute to pollution, harm wildlife, and waste water in their production. Instead, provide steel glasses and jugs, which are reusable and eco-friendly. With a small funding effort, you can supply 1,000 steel glasses and 100 jugs, each bearing the logo of the sponsoring company, to each marriage hall. This simple switch can reach and inspire lakhs of people, significantly reducing waste and promoting sustainability. I always wondered what happens to these pillows and blankets after the use? Are they washed and reused or tossed into the waste bin? Also, ditching plastic wrap is step forward at British Airways, what if that paper wrap could be replaced with fabric one and reused again? I have always thought, what if those plastic wraps would be replaced with pillowcase style fabric bags? One would hope, these pillows and blankets are reused again? Eliminating use single plastic in F&B services is yet another issue all airlines need to address. Maybe time to go back to reusable solutions again?
