**InsideArbitrage May 2024 Mid-Month Update – Howard Hughes** https://lnkd.in/gB4kTMeM Howard Hughes is probably one of most misunderstood companies on Wall Street and also one that has generated a lot of interest following a series of insider purchases by Bill Ackman through Pershing Square Capital Management late last year. The company was our spotlight idea for the December 2023 newsletter @ https://lnkd.in/gH4eDu_v New Updates: Bill Ackman publicly indicated that he did not plan on merging Pershing Square into Howard Hughes. Pershing Square’s discount to NAV has compressed from 37% in Sep 2023 to 30% in Dec 2023 to about 25% as of last week. Any urgency he may have had to compress the discount to NAV for both Pershing Square and Howard Hughes has probably dissipated somewhat. A transaction between the companies could also run into other complications including taxes that may have to be paid if a foreign entity is selling U.S. real estate.

Congrats Giles Henman, Chartered FCSI for 10 years with St. James's Place – Asia & Middle East. It is getting a little harder now to appear younger than you actually are (with all the wisdom!) 🤭 Anyway I completely agree with what Giles have shared here, time is the biggest mitigator of risk. If I may, I would also like to add "Diversification", especially across different markets and asset classes. By having different asset classes that are negatively correlated, it also helps in reducing risk and deliver better risk adjusted returns. #investment #retirementplanning #financialplanning #portfolio #cfp #certifiedfinancialplanner #diversification #eightwealthinternational
I have recently celebrated a Decade as a Partner of St. James's Place – Asia & Middle East - a lot has happened in that time both personally and for the world in general, we certainly live in interesting times… As I reflect on my 10-year journey with St. James’s Place, I’m reminded of a powerful lesson from the world of investing: consistency and time can lead to remarkable outcomes. Take Warren Buffett, for instance. When we look at his investment returns on a daily basis, they actually beat the market less than 50% of the time. Yet, when assessed over a decade, that figure rises to nearly 80%! This reinforces a crucial lesson for all investors – short-term fluctuations can often distract us from long-term goals. Throughout my years in this industry, I’ve witnessed many investors fall prey to behavioral mistakes, driven by emotions rather than strategy. The key takeaway? The biggest mitigator for risk has always been time. By allowing investments to compound and grow, we can weather the storm of market volatility. As we move forward, let’s embrace patience and trust the process. Here’s to another decade of helping clients navigate their financial journeys with wisdom and a long-term perspective! 💼✨ What has that got to do with the picture? Well apart from the fact that everyone likes cute rabbits, this particular rabbit is in his “Warren” enjoying a nice rabbit “Buffet” 🤷🏻♂️ #InvestmentWisdom #LongTermThinking #StJamessPlace #BehavioralFinance #WarrenBuffett

But before that, the markets may get a little sentimental on Friday, with the release of the preliminary consumer sentiment report. Here's something else we hope you will find interesting, and a look at last week's numbers. If you are interested in investing options, DM me! #marketupdate #investing #financialeducation
