Dear business leaders, As we approach LGBTQ+ Pride Month, it's important to remember that meaningful support is more than just posting rainbows and making press statements. We must take tangible actions to support our LGBTQ+ employees and create a safe, authentic work environment. Marching in a parade is fun, but there is hard work to he done. This means implementing policies that protect and support LGBTQ+ individuals, and actively working against politicians and policies that do not prioritize LGBTQ+ rights. Allyship is hard work, but it is necessary work. Let's make this Pride Month a time of true progress and change. As Pride Month comes to a close this weekend, we’ve seen many hospitality brands this month draping their logos in rainbow colours… But what goes on behind a business’ closed doors is just as - if not more - important as any public declarations of support. So, what does an LGBTQ+ inclusive work culture look like? Here’s what to aim for (and what to avoid). We recognize the importance of bringing our "best selves" to our workplaces. We also believe in the ability of living authentically, and celebrate #NationalComingOutDay. Coming out is a personal journey that requires courage, and it’s essential for all of us—whether you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally—to create a supportive environment. When individuals (whether employees, leaders, vendors, etc.) feel safe to share their stories, it fosters belonging and strengthens team. Focus on celebrating diversity and committing to being allies, by ensuring that everyone can live as themselves as work, where every voice is heard and valued. Just finished an amazing course on LinkedIn Learning called "Creating Equity for LGBTQ+" 🏳️🌈 As a soon-to-be graduate, I'm passionate about entering a workplace that's inclusive and celebrates diversity. This course helped me understand the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion and creating social equity in a workplace setting.
