Fascinating new clinical study on the impact of “Food as Medicine” that will garner quite a bit of scrutiny. I am sure there are some further takeaways to be researched as it relates to the topic but I think 12 months probably isn’t long enough to impact claims? Interesting that the program drove higher engagement but did not significantly lower A1C. Do you think the “Food as Medicine” plus elevated engagement would drive lower A1C and lower claims in a 12 month extension study? Consuela (Coni) Dennis RN, MSN, NE-BC or Arti Masturzo would love to hear your thoughts. Maybe even hear from Pranav Patel, PharmD, MS on shortcomings #healthcare #digitalhealth #diabetes Join my substack for regular updates on the healthcare industry. https://lnkd.in/gU2C7GEf

Such a useful talk last night from Spire Healthcare Group plc - on “new year, new me - new management of obesity” from Chinnadorai Rajeswaran (Raj). Obesity and weight loss seem to always be the conversation in general pracrice. Food is also such an integral part of being human - we are the only species who eat more than for simply surviving! Food brings a sense of belonging, sharing together, family, and has cultural and religious aspects. It isn't so simple to just “remove food” from our lives. Looking at eating habits, perception around weight and the misleading mantras we often hear around diet, as well as what elements contribute to eating more/less in our patient populations. Interesting takeaways and tips for patients wanting to lose weight: • change diet/timings we eat - our body learns very quickly and adapts (amazing really) - so any strict diet or intermittent fasting timings can be easily learnt and weight loss can stagnate. • reduce cardio, focus more on weight training - even small weights are helpful 💪 • our microbiome will play a huge role in the future around weight and diet We also looked at management at present and how future surgical techniques are going to play a key role eg. Gelesis, endobarriers and pacemakers.

I'm excited to share groundbreaking findings from the recent Nurses’ Health Study, highlighting the connection between nutrition and healthy aging. Involving 48,762 female nurses, this research examined the impact of dietary protein intake in midlife on the likelihood of healthy aging. Key Takeaways: - Plant Power: A heightened intake of plant-based proteins is strongly linked with healthy aging, highlighting the importance of a plant-rich diet. - Holistic Well-being: The study shows positive correlations between plant protein intake and not just physical but also mental health in later life. - Rethinking Protein Sources: It suggests a shift in dietary recommendations, favoring plant proteins over animal sources. Studies like these are vital in informing public health policies and empowering individuals with the knowledge to make informed health decisions. At Sompo Horizon, we provide comprehensive healthcare services specifically for family caregivers, a majority of whom are women, we constantly keep track of new findings and information. As we integrate these insights into our offerings, we reaffirm our commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of every caregiver in our community.
