Today, living is no longer just about physical spaces: it’s about how we interact, coexist, and thrive with everything around us: plants, animals, technology, and even artificial intelligence. Whether here or somewhere else, this idea was at the heart of ELLE Decor's recent event, Living Beyond. Imagining a future elsewhere, our AKQA Italy Managing Director, Umberto Basso, shared a bold perspective on how design can shape life beyond the familiar. He challenged the audience to rethink the principles of design: "In a scenario of life profoundly different from today’s, I imagine a design that takes on greater conceptual relevance. One that transcends the limits of parametric design, adapting to radically new environments while maintaining its identity and originality. It doesn’t lose its soul and intellectual property but creates infinite variations. Not just form, but intelligence." Events like this remind us that ideas and innovation aren’t optional, they’re essential tools for navigating the challenges of tomorrow.
