Sporting Director & Professional Athlete Mentor

More evidence in the news today ⬇️ that professional athletes need just as much mental health support as every other human being in the world. Just because athletes play sport & for large parts of their career, the perception is they seem to be enjoying what they do, at crucial times they can also need a break & those in charge of the sporting bodies should only ever support the individual rather than judge them ✔️ #mentalhealthmatters #mentoringmatters #rolemodels #supportathletes #respect #decisionmaking 🙏🏼 #discriminations https://lnkd.in/egXAMb76

It is so important and people forget to recognise that each of these “players” are also human beings 🙏🏼

Ultimately we need to not forget (remember) the athlete is a "person first" and "athlete second" who is so often judged by what the do not who they are - often times these guys and girls spend much of their career on an extraordinary roller coaster ride. We can all do better in supporting this.

I continue to read stories like this about elite players. Everyone makes a noise about rallying round to offer support and understanding. What people need to understand that a PREVENTATIVE approach can reduce the chances of a crisis from arising. Sadly however, sports stakeholders are reluctant to engage with proven scientific programmes.
