It is important that leaders invest in their own development in order to best support their teams. Life long learning is invaluable and can open doors to new possibilities and opportunities for the future. Never let anyone tell you that you are too old to start or finish anything. Time for more life long learning for me as I embark on my MBA program. #snhu#shrm#apple#nsls#deltamudelta#alphasigmalambda#lifelonglearning#mbalife#summa

Did you ever have that dream while you were in school where you would show up for an exam and are totally unprepared?
It could be because you didn't study, read the book, all your pencils keep breaking, or in some cases...you are in your underwear?
Well, I think I just had the fully-online program equivalent last night!
I finished my fully-online MBA at the Questrom School of Business, Boston University last year (which was a phenomenal experience BTW, come talk to me if you are interested!)
One of the reasons I selected it was because instead of individual function-specific courses like marketing or finance, the program was comprised of six thematic and integrated modules.
Well, last night I had a dream that there was a sneaky seventh module required for graduation (or Mod 6b, as it was called in my dream).
There was no email announcement, just a silent content drop on Blackboard.
I found out about it four weeks into the mod and I was in a panic - I had already missed about 100 points worth of knowledge checks and assignments, my team was pissed at me that I wasn't responding to the WhatsApp thread, and I had about 30 unread emails in by BU inbox from the learning facilitators asking if I was deferring graduation, and if so, could I please send back my diploma.
Thankfully, I woke up shortly after...however, I think I just innovated a traditional dream trope?

It's always a privilege to share Western Governors University's story and learnings with other leaders in #HigherEd. Earlier today I had the opportunity to share how we're endeavoring to improve lives, one by one, through a unique learning model that puts students at the center of everything we do.
For too long, it's been accepted that a given class will have high achievers, a segment of students who do all right, and another segment who fail. Yet research has shown that most students—90%—can master learning materials when given sufficient time. This begs the question: why do we continue to lump students together and require that they progress at the same time, with little care as to whether they've mastered the knowledge, skills, and abilities they'll need to succeed in their careers and lives?
In contrast to traditional models of #education where time is constant but learning varies, Competency-Based Education flips the paradigm by measuring skills and learning rather than time spent in the classroom.
#ThomasFriedman said it best: “Institutions must move from a model of ‘time served’ to a model of ‘stuff learned.’ Because increasingly the world does not care what you know. Everything is on Google. The world only cares, and will only pay for, what you can do with what you know. . . . We’re moving to a more competency-based world where there will be less interest in how you acquired the competency….and more demand to prove that you mastered the competency.”

WGU’s model, emphasizing ‘stuff learned’ over ‘time served’, inspires a fundamental shift in our approach to education. It advocates for a comprehensive redesign of teaching, learning, assessment, and evaluation methods, transitioning from simply measuring time in class to evaluating true mastery. This approach, focusing on applied knowledge and individual learning styles, is not only more relevant but immediately practical in diverse contexts.
As an educator, I recognize the complexities in crafting such enriching learning experiences. The integration of technology, particularly AI, offers unprecedented opportunities. AI-enhanced systems could provide adaptive learning experiences, personalized feedback, and real-world mastery assessments. This isn’t just aspirational; it’s a tangible future that promises to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical skills, fundamentally transforming education in our rapidly changing world.
