#overtoperator recently had the privilege of attending the Space Mobility Conference and Space Com in Orlando, Florida. #spacepolicy #spaceport #criticalinfrastructure One particular panel discussed the vitality of Space ports for our modern way of life. Panelists debated whether to add these ports to the critical infrastructure framework or not. Views in favor find Space ports to be too important to our survival as a society to not include in the framework. Opposing thoughts questioned if the framework is sufficient, or if the process would add a bureaucracy that would limit Space ports, and their security obligation to rapidly evolve. Here is our snapshot #analysis of that discussion. https://lnkd.in/eRaHPTsT

Looking forward to tomorrow's (Monday) discussion at 10:30 AM ET with dear colleagues David Goldman and Kalpak Gude along with Edgar Rivas, and the Technology Policy Institute's Sarah Oh Lam. Zoom link below if you're interested in tuning in. Topic: Satellite spectrum usage is governed largely by legacy frameworks that may not be appropriate given increased deployments and use of satellite connections. What new developments from WRC-23 affect satellite policy going forward? The FCC’s Space Bureau, other federal agencies and international bodies, have levers to speed up or slow down innovation in space. What is the state of policy in satellite spectrum, can there be more flexibility or is command and control inevitable?

SaveTheDate ... Value of EO & space data assets, Power tools & apps... "Space-based Earth observations can play a key role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, disasters, & other socioeconomic & environmental issues through their ability to capture data over a range of spatial, spectral, and temporal resolutions. But do the public, policymakers, and end users truly understand the value of Earth observation and other space data and assets to address problems on Earth? In reality, many space organizations often struggle with communications, marketing, and social media campaigns on these issues. This session will feature a variety of communications and space experts to discuss strategies for improving community understanding of how space assets and data can serve as a tool for action in the world. Audience members will walk away with a better understanding of how to frame their websites, communications materials, presentations, and other key outreach tools in order to convey key messages about the value of space activities to the public and other stakeholders." In the sixty-third session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (15-26 April 2024), schematic overview of #national regulatory frameworks for space activities is shared by the Commitee. (It is not first, the commitee shared such overview in the past years: https://lnkd.in/d_i3adMf) The document dated 15 April 2024 attached shows the status and application of the five #UN treaties on outer space, and ways and means, including #capacity-building, to promote their implementation by briefly mentioning the national #laws and #regulations.
