Have you ever seen this ad? It’s a Hero Splendor ad that first came on TV in 2015. I still remember watching it clearly and it wasn’t just another bike ad for me. This ad felt more like an emotion. As a child, every time it came on, I found myself watching it until the end, though I wasn’t sure why. Looking back, I realize it created a strong emotional connection with me. The visuals, music, and the story of the characters stuck with me and left a lasting impression beyond just the bike. Today, in the fast-moving digital world, the blink test is more important than ever. If an ad makes you feel something whether it's nostalgia, excitement, or empathy it captures our attention right away. The Hero Splendor ad did that for me by telling a story that made me feel connected, and because of that, I watched it till the end. Effective marketing is a lot like putting on a theater performance. My son recently performed in a musical with our community theater. (No this is not a post about how proud I am of his hard work and how teary I got watching him fearlessly perform on stage.) I’ve spent the past two months watching him and the rest of the cast at rehearsals. 🎶 From vocal warmups, to learning choreography to blocking scenes — week after week they built a foundation that resulted in 4 fun and entertaining performances. 😅 It was very messy to watch all the way up to the final rehearsal the night before the show opened. Had they not developed a plan for each song, scene, movement across stage the end result would have been a mess. 🚦Traffic jams and collisions on stage. 🎭Missed lines. 🎩The wrong props at the wrong time. Marketing is a bit like this. It’s tempting to want to jump straight to “the performance.” Take action! Start doing! See results! Instead, slow down to go fast. 📝Develop a clear plan. Set a strong foundation so all the pieces of your marketing are choreographed to work together. This is why at HEIGHTS STRATEGIC MARKETING we develop a marketing roadmap before we jump to execution.
