In any business whatsoever, your service/product is the most important thing: If you have a mediocre product and start marketing it, you're just scamming people. However, if you have a good product, the first user will bring you at least two of their friends. When people see the product demo, it has to look amazing. That's what gets them to work with you, and if you keep your promise (unlike 99% of marketers), those customers will bring you more customers. Your reputation is greater than any marketing strategy. This doesn't mean you have to make a perfect product to sell it, but when you start making sales, your goal is to make the best product.
