I'm afraid I have to disagree with Mr Simon Sinek. As much as I enjoyed the podcast. Scent is not the most overlooked sense.... in fact, it is one of the most widely adopted sensory stimuli that brands have adopted, if you go beyond the obvious brand identity colours, fonts, logos, all of which are relying on sight. But brands are still missing a trick. Let's stop thinking in silos. We know that when customers feel a connection to a brand, over half of them will increase their spending with that brand and over 75% will choose them over the competition*. So how do you build long-lasting connections? Layer in the sensory details. Yes, discover a signature scent. But also, think about how your brand tastes. How it feels. How it sounds. And what emotions you are trying to evoke. And design from there. Consistently. Through every touch point. By delivering a multi-sensory experience it is easier for our brains to retain positive brand associations and ensure that experience stays in our memory. So don't rely on one sensory element to do all the hard work. Work on your brand at a deeper level, and design a sensory strategy. #brandexperience #sensorydesign #customerexperience #customerengagement *Source: Sprout Social, Inc.

I have always been curious about the connection between smell and memory! 🧠 Loved this conversation between Simon Sinek and Dawn Goldworm about the science of scents and how it is being used to spark emotion, memory, and loyalty in certain brands.⚡ This makes me really curious now about how scents could be used to create stronger learning and memory for K-12 learners. For example based on Dawn's work, can we engineer a scent associated with math that triggers better retention and recall each time a student smells that same scent?💡Seems like a new frontier in application of brain science to transform learning, right up our alley at Professional Learning Partnerships 🔥 Network of education innovators - do you know of anyone doing this work in schools or universities? Who could we connect with to explore and experiment? 💭 Maybe we'll take a stab at it 😉 #brainpower #changemakers
