We've recently been interviewing some of the 3,278 readers who've contacted us to share what having free access to one of University of Michigan Press's books has meant to them. The stories have inspired me, intrigued me, and sometimes made me cry. You can learn more about our project to speak with real OA book readers here: https://lnkd.in/gSguxmnp. I know that almost 2,741,088 accesses from over 229 countries and territories is a big number, and we love sharing our Book Analytics Service public dashboard (https://lnkd.in/gFhGnYA2). It's also exciting to see the monthly growth, jumping to over 100,000 accesses in March. But it's that human connection that makes all the difference. Having to spend tens to hundreds of dollars to access articles and scholarly books would make writing research papers next to impossible for me. Seeing that a source I need is open-access or otherwise available for free takes a great burden off my shoulders." "Please make more materials open-access. It would help world scholarship a lot. "Have open-access books is pivotal for our student population, many of whom come from low-resource communities and often find textbooks cost-prohibitive to completing courses and academic credits successfully. A little background: The Page Education Foundation's goal is to encourage, motivate, and assist Minnesota's students of color in the pursuit of post-secondary education, and, in the process, change the future. What's unique about the Page Education Foundation: Page Scholars, return to their communities (all over the state of MN) to serve as mentors and role models for elementary and high school students. They also have opportunities to be mentored themselves. Our ROI is over 500%: For every $1 spent on Page Scholars, there is a projected $5.52 in social value created through increased earnings and improved health for Page Scholars and children served, increased classroom support, and reduced onboarding cost and increased productivity for our Accelerate corporate partners. As many of you know, Dave & I are passionate board members for Kids In The Middle (KITM) which supports families going through divorce. Today kicks off our 24 hour annual Giving 4 Kids campaign and we are asking for your support. KITM serves 2,000+ children and families through their counseling services.
