Key responsibilities: ⚡Craft savi's product storytelling vision and voice. ⚡Communicate internally and externally articulating our platforms benefits and features in a compelling manner that resonates with our commercial teams and clients. ⚡Lead the production of product marketing content development. e.g. Tailored sales enablement materials, pitch decks, product demos, case studies, customer testimonials, ROI calculators, social media posts and web content. ⚡Create and drive go to market (GTM) strategies for new product/feature releases to ensure effective product/features launch ⚡Collaborate closely with product management to understand how platform features align with market needs; and to understand feature adoption and usage. Optimising marketing communications and ensuring communication of how our solution addresses customer pain points effectively. ⚡Effectively communicate the unique value proposition of our platform for different customer segments. ⚡Manage and communicate a product marketing deployment timeline. I see a lot of employee and employer interest in developing PMM functions and hiring PMMs. This also means a flux of marketers, PMs who want to switch to PMM. If you’re trying to enter PMM too, here’s some general advice from a 14 years B2B Marketing rookie, done ~6 years in PMM. Hope this helps: • ⁠Learn how to acquire Product, Company and Brand (deep) context and apply your marketing faculties to this context. So you can map product value with market requirements. Product Marketers do it more granularly than regular marketers. • ⁠Understand if the company growth is sales-led, product-led or something else. Understand your possible impact • ⁠Learn to write positioning - understand, iterate, test, optimise and measure. This is a core skill • ⁠Become data or logic oriented. PMMs have total access to product data. Learn to front load narratives with data. • ⁠Generally upskill in these areas (Pick 1-2 for deep expertise) 1- Product/Feature Positioning 2- Sales Collaterals 3- Website and CRO 4- Pricing Strategy 5- GTMs 6- Narrative building/story telling Caveat: B2C PMM could be slightly different. With more focus on distribution. PMM is a relatively new function. Orgs are still figuring out differentiation from Marketing. Expect ad-hoc track changes within PMM. Be curious. I could not agree with this analysis more. PMMs are basically mini CMOs. You must own the world of your particular product if at a larger company with multiple products, or if at a smaller company you are the Swiss army knife - but your top priority is to 1. know the customer better than anyone else and feed that information into all directions the job takes you. and 2. know the product to a depth where you can match the two together and translate for anyone - dev, customers, c-levels, product, strategy, what is needed and what the value is in their 'speak'. Best job ever but not an easy one.

In the end it’s all semantics. The product marketing manager job title is one thing, the written job description another, and the unwritten expectations still another. Hiring managers, decide what YOUR company needs and don’t just copy a job description from a renowned company or a competitor. Put your needs in your job description. ° Do you need someone who has created over 20 types of product content? Write it down. ° Do you need someone who has transitioned the marketing of a product from an on-premise to a SaaS solution? Write it down. (A few of you see where this is going.) ° Do you need someone with 29 years of experience in the identity/biometric industry? Write it down.
